South Burlington, VT. – Brandon Brown stopped 39 shots as the Post University men's hockey team defeated Saint Michael's, 3-1 in a Northeast-10 game on Saturday evening.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Eagles who are now 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the NE10.
The 39 saves were the second most Brown has had this season. He had 49 in a game against UMass-Boston.
Post got on the board at the 7:34 mark in the first period.
Jack Engdahl ripped a slap shot which was stopped.
Ryan Mosher tried to put home a rebound which came right back to Engdahl who scored his third goal of the season.
Post went into the would hold the lead after the first 20 minutes and would hold that lead through the second period as Brown stopped 19 shots in the second.
It didn't take long for the Eagles to score in the third as
Evan Lugo took a back-handed pass from
Jake Raleigh and ripped a shot in the slot for his third goal of the season.
The Purple Knights (2-9, 2-5 NE10) cut the deficit in half with 3:40 remaining, but the Eagles were able to hold on as
Patrick Murphy put home an empty net goal in the final minute to secure the win.
Post had 38 shots on the day, led by
Jake Raleigh with seven.
Nolan Arbuckle had five.
"The guys played a complete game overall and executed well with three different goal scorers. Everyone contributed offensively, and on the defensive side of the puck as well," head coach
Pete Whitney said.
The Eagles have won their last two games against the Purple Knights. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at Saint Michael's at 4 p.m.
