Men's Hockey Drops To First-Place Saint Anselm In Tough NE10 Battle

Manchester, N.H. – The Post University men's hockey team gave the top team in the Northeast-10 Conference all it had, but fell 2-1 to Saint Anselm on Friday evening.

Senior Lucas Smith scored the lone goal for the Eagles (2-11-0, 0-8-0 NE10), as he took a pass from junior Evan Lugo, raced down the left side and fired it past Saint Anselm goalie Nick Howard to make it a 2-1 game at the time at the 12:36 mark in the second period.

The Hawks had taken a 2-1 first period lead after two late first period goals just 31 seconds apart from Kiliane Hammersmith and Ryan Spillane.

Both teams would go scoreless in the final period, but the Eagles were able to muster 11 shots in the final period making the Hawks sweat for the final 20 minutes.

"It's a 60-minute game and a brief lapse in the first period was the difference maker," coach Pete Whitney said."I am impressed with our ability to regroup between periods, win the second and draw even in the third, not the final result we wanted but bodes well moving forward."

Junior Brandon Brown had 26 saves for the Eagles.

The two teams meet again Saturday at Saint Anselm at 4 p.m.
