SPARKILL, N.Y. – The Post University women's tennis team opened its season with a 5-4 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Monday afternoon. The Eagles come into the year ranked eighth in the East Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Post found itself down 2-1 after doubles. Senior
Natasha Siku (Gaborone, Botswana) and sophomore
Jessica Bergen (Bethel, Conn.) took an 8-6 victory in third doubles. Sophomores
Madison Young (Wellington, New Zealand) and
Sarah Namazi (Waterbury, Conn.) nearly grabbed a point, but fell in close match 9-7.
Junior
Liza Dubrovskaya (Rostov-on-Don, Russia) picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bianca Signore in No. 1 singles. Young defeated Nyenyeri Kanefu in second singles 7-5, 6-2 and Namazi earned a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6. Junior
Brianna Miah (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) won a three-set match at No. 3 singles 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to clinch the win for the Eagles.
Post is back in action on Wednesday afternoon in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and home opener against Caldwell. First serve at Edgewood Bath & Tennis is set for 3 p.m.
