PREVIEW: Eagles Set To Take On USciences In CACC Tourney

Team Has Momentum After Comeback Win

Waterbury, Conn. – With the regular season in its rearview mirror, the Post University women's basketball teams sets its sights on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament, as it will take on USciences in Philadelphia on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Eagles finished the regular season with a 7-21 overall record and a 7-12 record in the CACC, placing them in fourth place in the North Division.
Post finished its regular season on the highest of notes, coming back from 15 points down in the second half to win, 85-79 against Georgian Court on Feb. 21. Junior Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) notched a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. But it was the hot shooting from freshmen Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Nicole Viselli (Groveland, Ma.) in the second half that mounted the comeback in the second half.

Deren hit four of her five three-pointers during the second half comeback and finished with 16 points. Viselli hit a three-pointer with 36 seconds left to give the Eagles the lead for good at 79-76. She finished with 12 points. Sophomore Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) scored 16 for the Eagles.

How The Eagles Have Fared In The CACC Tournament
This is the fourth time in school history that the women's basketball team has qualified for the CACC tournament. It is also the second time in three seasons the Eagles have made the tournament. In their most recent tournament appearance, the Eagles lost, 63-42 to Goldey-Beacom during the 2012-2013 season. The Eagles have not advanced past the first round, losing in 2005-2006 to Dominican (75-68) and in the 2003-2004 season to Holy Family (84-46).

Top Ten List
With her 26-point performance in the final regular season game, Deaisia Acklin finished the season tenth in scoring at 14.2 points per game. She finished seventh in field goals made (142) and fourth in free-throws made (107). Defensively, she was a pest, with 58 steals, putting her sixth in the CACC.

Nicole Viselli was a threat from deep all season, hitting 52 three-pointers, eighth most in the conference.  She also tied a school record with seven three-pointers made in an 85-77 loss to Dominican on Jan. 28.

Devil Dogs
The USciences Devils were the top team in the South Division with a 19-7 overall record and 15-4 record in the CACC. They are led by Brianne Traub, who finished second in the CACC in the regular season in scoring at 19.9 points per game. She was eighth in rebounds at 8.2 rebounds per game. Defensively, the Devils were the best, giving up just 59.5 points per game, tops in the CACC. The Devils pass the ball around, as they lead the CACC in assists per game with 17.1 assists per game.
