Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University women's soccer team kicks off its 2014 season on Thursday as it takes on Queens College at the Mercy College campus in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. at 2 p.m. The Eagles are coming off of a 7-9 campaign a season ago, and finishing 5-7 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, good enough for 10
th in the conference. They were picked to finish 11
th in the conference this season.
Post finished on a high note, winning its final two games of the previous season against Felician and Concordia.
The Eagles return two of the top players in the conference, including reigning leading CACC goal scorer,
Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.). Dunster finished last season with 11 goals, two more than her closest competitor. She also led the CACC in points with 27. Dunster was named to both the All-CACC First Team and the All-ECAC First Team.
The Eagles also return
Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.). Carroll finished second on the team in both goals (six) and points (15).
The beginning of the season also marks the return of
Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.). Dennis tore her ACL early on in the 2013 season and missed the majority of the season. Dennis is third all-time in goals in school history with 22.
Among other key returnees are senior midfielder
Shannon Bahme (Naugatuck, Conn.) and sophomore forward
Valerie Moore (Bloomfield, Conn.). Moore finished with five goals on the season while filling in for Dennis.
On Sept. 6 at noon, the Eagles will take on Mercy in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. Mercy finished 13-5-1 last season, and qualified for the Division II tournament. The Mavericks also lost in the ECC Championship.
