PREVIEW: Eagles Visit Dominican Tuesday In CACC Quarterfinals

WATERBURY, Conn. – Riding a four-game win streak the seventh-seeded Post University men's soccer team will visit second-seeded Dominican on Tuesday in the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament. The Eagles have advanced to the finals in each of the last three seasons.

Post dominated on both sides of the field from start to finish, but could not find the back of the net in the first half despite outshooting the Warriors 9-1. The Eagles converted on three corner kicks early in the second half all off the foot of junior Gustavo Ferreira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) who finished with three assists.
 
He first found the head of junior Jacob Butler-Bowden (Adelaide, Australia) in the 49th minute for his first goal of the season. A minute later, Moura scored his team-leading ninth goal. Freshman Stefan Tomasevic (London, England) scored the third goal of the half in the 56th minute.
 
Junior Tiago Martins (Porto, Portugal) scored the final goal after the Warriors' keeper left the net and was tripped up by his own player. Martins easily scored on the empty net.
 
Scouting the Chargers
Dominican enters the tournament as the second seed after finishing 12-3-1 overall and 9-2-1 in the conference play this season. The Chargers are unbeaten in their last 11 games and have won six straight. CACC First Teamer Mark Grant has five goals and seven assists on the season.

Last time the Eagles visited Dominican they came home with a 2-1 overtime victory. Earlier this season the Chargers defeated Post 2-0 at LaMoy Field. Dominican won 3-2 on penalty kicks in the last CACC Tournament meeting between the teams.

The Eagles have had two players selected a CACC Player of the Week this season. In the opening week of the year Raphael Moura earned the honor after scoring twice in Post's season-opening 4-3 victory over Franklin Pierce. With the score tied 3-3, Moura booted home the winner in the 88th minute off a pass from Tiago Martins. Martins earned Player of the Week honors on Oct. 6 after scoring twice in Eagles victories over Caldwell and Wilmington.
 
Climbing The Leaderboards
Post is near the top of Division II in scoring offense (27th   – 2.23 goals per game) and total goals (29th  – 29). Raphael Moura is tied for fifth in the CACC with seven goals this year. As a team, Post  second with 15.4 shots per game, fourth with 29 goals and sixth with 19 assists.
 
Home Sweet Home
Since LaMoy Field reopened midway through the 2011 season, the Eagles have been stellar at home. In 31 matches on the turf, Post has amassed a 26-2-3 record and won four straight. Since the first game there on Oct. 13, 2011, the Eagles outscored their opponents 82-25 at LaMoy.
 
On The Horizon
The winner of this game will play the winner of #3 Concordia and #6 Wilmington on Thursday, Nov. 6 at LaMoy Field in the semifinal round. The game time will either be 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. depending on the outcome of the other quarterfinal games.
