PREVIEW: Eagles Men’s Basketball Begins CACC Play This Week

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post men's basketball team will hit the road once again this week as it opens up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play against Concordia and Dominican. The Eagles visit the Clippers on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and the Chargers on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: Daemen 88, Post 80 – Recap | Box Score
The Eagles fell to 0-2 on the season with an 88-80 defeat to host Daemen in the ECC-CACC Challenge on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) led the team with 21 points and was named to the All-Tournament team.
 
Desrosiers nailed one of his five three-pointers on the day off a dish by senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) to spark an 11-2 run which cut the deficit to 30-27. The Wildcats responded with nine straight points and took a 45-34 lead into the break.
 
Post began to chip away at the lead to start the second and cut the deficit to 49-44 after a three-point play by freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.). After Daemen jumped back in front by double-digits, the Eagles responded with a 12-5 stretch to pull within three at 60-57 with 6:48 left.
 
Bogues finished with 13 points, eight assists, and six rebounds. Post outrebounded the Wildcats 39-28, including a 21-5 margin offensively.
 
Scouting the Clippers
Concordia is 1-1 on the season and returns home after also playing in the ECC-CACC Challenge. The Clippers fell to Daemen, but defeated Roberts Wesleyan in the tournament. Jamie Holder was named to the CACC Honor Roll this week after averaging 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals last weekend. Concordia was picked to finish last in the North Division

The Eagles are 8-4 against the Clippers since 2007 and have won five out of the last six meetings. Last season Post swept Concordia and the last lost came on the road in the 2012-13 season.

Scouting the Chargers
Dominican enters the week at 0-2 after dropping two games in the NE-10 CACC Challenge to Stonehill and Assumption. Nick Smith leads the Chargers with 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game He scored 28 points against Stonehill to open the season. Dominican was picked second in the North Division and received one first-place vote.

Post holds a 15-8 record against the Chargers and has won the last three meetings between the two teams. The Eagles last lost in Orangeburg in 2012.

Preseason Poll
Post was picked to finish fifth in the CACC North Division this year. The Eagles received 41 votes. Bloomfield and Philadelphia were selected to finish first in the North and South Divisions, respectively.
 
Starting From Scratch
The Eagles return just one player from a year ago in sophomore Rokas Lapsys (Vilnius, Lithuania). Lapsys appeared in just three games, averaging 9.3 minutes per outing. This year's roster features 13 players including six freshman, two sophomores, four juniors, and one senior. The players come from all over the globe with two from England in freshmen Kyle Squire (Cheshire, England) and Joseph Lockwood (London, England) and one from Australia, junior Shannon McCready (Melbourne, Australia) and Lithuania.
 
On The Horizon
Post will have a week off before it returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 30 against Stonehill. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
