Box Score

Waterbury, Conn. – Seniors Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.), Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) and sophomore Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) put the Eagles on their back and defeated the Dominican Chargers, 83-79 in a thriller at the Drubner Center on Tuesday night in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup.

Latham – the school's all-time leading scorer – scored 27 points, Wright-James had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Griffin finished with 19 points and seven rebounds in a solid team effort. It was the second straight strong performance from the Eagles.

The Eagles jumped out of the gates fast, scoring the first ten points of the game, ending on a three-pointer by Latham, which forced Dominican to call a timeout to stop the bleeding. The Eagles would hold the Chargers at bay for a while until 10:47 mark of the first half. At that point, a layup from Aliyah Alston sparked a 17-4 run to take a 30-26 lead with 5:53 left.

Post would fight back with a run of its own, an 18-4 stretch which took them in to the half with a 44-34 lead. During that stretch, Griffin scored six points and five from Latham.

At the break, Latham had 10 points, Griffin, 13 and Wright James had eight points, nine rebounds and five assists. Lashonda Hathorne had nine points to lead Dominican at the break.

Wright-James and Griffin started the second half hitting back-to-back threes for the Eagles, setting in motion another solid half for the Eagles. Post was able to keep the Chargers at bay, never allowing them to get closer than four points for most of the half.

The final 8:44 of the second half saw a steady dose of Latham, who scored 12 of the last 18 points for the Eagles, including the clinching free throw to seal the victory for the Eagles.

Freshman Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn.) scored 11 points. Junior Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) scored five points and dished out six assists. The Eagles shot an astounding 50.9 percent (29-for-57) from the field, including 11-for-20 from three-point land (55.0 percent).

KC Jentzen scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace the Chargers. Lisa Bouffard scored 16 points and had eight rebounds.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 6-11 overall and 6-5 in the CACC. The Chargers dropped to 6-12 overall and 4-7 in the CACC.

Up next for the Eagles is another CACC conference matchup, as they take on Goldey-Beacom at 1 p.m. at the Drubner Center at Feb. 1.
