Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team won its first game of the season on Tuesday night against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Bloomfield 3-0 at the Drubner Center. The set scores were 25-16, 25-13, 25-21. Junior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) finished with a game-high 32 assists, topping 1,000 for her career.

Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) added a season-high 16 kills and eight digs for the Eagles. Sophomore Jennifer Lombardo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) notched an impressive six service aces as well as a game-high 14 digs in the win for Post.

Post played with a ton of energy and got off to a hot start right out of the gate. The Eagles hopped out to an early 8-1 lead after a Wilman kill. Post maintained the lead at 15-7 before Bloomfield went on a 5-0 run to make it 15-12. The Eagles got right back on track, however, finishing the opening set on a 10-4 run to win it 25-16.

Post continued its strong play opening up the second set. A service ace by Wilman gave the Eagles a commanding 12-3 lead over the Deacons. Bloomfield came within seven at 16-9, but Post went on a 9-4 run to end the set at 25-13.

Bloomfield kept it close in the final set and grabbed an 8-7 lead early after a kill by Ashley Wright. Post came right back, winning five points in a row to make the score 12-8 after a service ace by Lombardo. The Deacons would not go away quietly, trailing by just two at 18-16, but the Eagles stayed persistent. Freshman Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn) recorded the final kill to give Post a 25-21 set win.

Slyaktina is just the fourth player in program history to reach 1,000 career assists. She now has 1,014 assists as an Eagle. Slyaktina'a 32 assists against Bloomfield also matched her season high, which she previously recorded against Saint Anselm. She added four kills in the win as well.

The Eagles finished the match with an astonishing 12 service aces. Other than Lombardo, Wilman and Slyaktina each tallied two service aces apiece. Griffin and fellow freshman Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) had the two remaining service aces.

Juliette Monroy led the way for the Deacons with 14 kills, five digs and a service ace.

Post is now 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the CACC. The Eagles hit the road next to play at Merrimack on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. as part of the Merrimack Tournament.
