WILMINGTON, Del. – The Post University women's basketball team's season ended on Saturday as it was defeated by Goldey-Beacom, 63-42, in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinals at the Jones Center in Wilmington, Del. Graduate student
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded her ninth double-double of the season in the loss.
Chance scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with three blocks on the afternoon. Junior
Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) scored 20 points for the 11
th time this season. She was 5-for-7 from behind the arc.
Chance made a jumper at 13:22 to give the Eagles an early 7-6 advantage. After a three-pointer by Jacinda Jones put the Lightning back out in front, Latham answered from distance to put Post ahead 10-9 with 12:06 remaining in the first half. It would be their last lead of the game.
Goldey-Beacom used a 14-4 run to pull ahead 23-14 at the 8:56 mark of the first. Junior
Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) blocked a shot off a Lightning player to give Post the ball back. Latham hit a jumper on the ensuing possession make the score 23-16 with 7:57 remaining. The Eagles were held scoreless for the remainder of the half as Goldey-Beacom closed out the period on a 13-0 run to take a 26-16 lead into the break.
Devonne Richardson scored the first four points of the second half to put the Lightning ahead 40-16. Latham and Chance combined for six straight points for Post that closed the gap to 40-22 with 14:07 left. Junior
Fernanda Mansilla (Ancud, Chile) hit a layup at the 8:15 mark that brought the Eagles as close as they would get at 50-34 with 8:15 remaining.
The Lightning went 7-for-8 from the line down the stretch. Junior
Jessica Webber (Naugatuck, Conn.) made a jumper as time expired for the final margin.
Post forced 18 turnovers which led to 11 points, while the Lightning only forced 12 and scored eight points. Goldey-Beacom held a 54-33 advantage on the glass. Richardson led the Lightning with 23 points, 12 boards, and eight assists.
The Eagles finish the season at a record of 11-16 overall, their most wins since the 2005-06 season. They were 9-10 in conference play this season. Latham scored 432 points this season, the second-highest single-season total in school history.
