PREVIEW: Eagles Host Georgian Court In Search Of Tenth CACC Victory For First Time Since 2005-06

Post Sits One Win Ahead Of Bloomfield For Third Seed In CACC North With Two Games Remaining

The Post University women's basketball team hosts Georgian Court in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday in search of its most conference victories since the 2005-06 campaign. The Eagles have won their last three games against the Lions at home. Post currently holds the third seed in the CACC North at a record of 11-13 overall and 9-8 in conference play with two games remaining.

With help from a season-best 62.2 percent shooting percentage, the Eagles defeated Bloomfield on Tuesday night. Graduate student Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was 8-for-11 from the field for 18 points. She also grabbed 12 rebounds on her way to her eighth double-double of the season. Junior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) shot 7-for-9 and scored 23 points.
 
After a back and forth first half, the Eagles took control with a 14-4 run to begin the second. Latham sparked the stretch with a three-pointer. Wright-James hit a quick jumper on the next possession as Post pulled ahead 40-32 with 18:01 remaining.
 
Seven turnovers during a stretch of 4:44 sparked an 11-0 run by the Deacons that cut the Eagles advantage to 48-47 with 7:55 remaining. Post's hot shooting would not allow Bloomfield to draw any closer as the Eagles didn't miss a shot from the field over the final 10:23 and were 8-of-10 from the free throw line down the stretch. Post was 9-for-12 from the floor in and 11-for-14 from the line in the second half.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
The Eagles are 11-5 all time against Georgian Court. Post is 6-2 against the Lions at the Drubner Center and has won the last two contests at home.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
Georgian Court is fighting for the final CACC Playoff berth in the South Division at a record of 7-16 overall and 6-11 in conference play with just two games remaining. The Lions have struggled of late, losing four of their last five including three in a row. They haven't won away from home since Jan. 9, a streak of four games. The Lions lead the conference in rebounding with 50.2 boards per game and a margin of 8.8, which is good for eighth in the nation. They are second with 10.7 steals per contest. Senior guard Shauneia McPhearson leads the team and is sixth in the CACC with 16.6 points per game. Senior guard Ebony Sellers leads the conference with 3.1 steals per game.
 
LATHAM SCORES 1,000 IN HER CAREER
Aubrey Latham scored 21 points against Concordia on Jan. 15 to join the Eagles' 1,000-Point Club. She hit the milestone with a layup in the first half against the Clippers. Latham is the fifth player in Post University history to score 1,000 points and is third on the all-time scoring list.

RECORD BREAKING PERFORMANCE
Junior Fernanda Mansilla has been putting her teammates in position to score all season. She leads the CACC and is sixth in the nation with 5.7 assists per contest. She broke Post's single-season assists record on Feb. 2 against Holy Family with five assists and now sits at 137 on the year. The old record was 119 set by Melissa Czeremcha during the 2003-04 campaign. Against Chestnut Hill on Dec. 8, Mansilla dished out 11 assists, the highest total by an Eagle since the 2004-05 season.
 
GRIFFIN HONORED AS TOP ROOKIE
Freshman Hailey Griffin was chosen as CACC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 14. Griffin averaged 12.5 points in two games for the week of Jan. 6- Jan. 12., including a career-high 14 points in an 80-61 victory over Nyack. She was 9-for-16 from the floor and 6-for-8 from distance for the week. She is the first Eagle to be honored by the conference this season.
 
AMONG THE NATION'S ELITE
As of the NCAA Division II rankings from Feb. 10, Fernanda Mansilla ranks sixth in the nation with 5.7 assists per game. Monique Chance is 12th with 10.7 rebounds per game. The Eagles are 28th in the country with 7.1 made three-pointers per game.
 
EAGLES AMONG CACC LEADERS
Post averages 7.0 three-pointers made per game to lead the CACC and is third with a 31.8 shooting percentage from deep. The Eagles are the second-highest scoring team in the conference at 65.9 points per game. Fernanda Mansilla leads the conference with 5.7 assists per game. Aubrey Latham is third with 17.5 points per game. Monique Chance is second with 10.8 boards per game.
 
LIVE BY THE THREE
The Eagles have been knocking down shots from behind the arc all season. In nine of its victories this season, Post has taken over 20 shots from distance and made at least seven. The Eagles are the top three-point shooting team in the conference at 7.0 made per game. Against Bloomfield on Jan. 3, they made a season-high 15 from distance on 50.0% shooting.
 
CLIMBING UP THE CAREER LIST
With at team-leading 248 rebounds this season, Monique Chance has moved into second place in Post history for career rebounds. Chance sits at 804 boards for her career. Tadj Williams, who played from 2003-06, is first with 891 career rebounds.
 
SCORING 20-PLUS
Aubrey Latham scored 20 points in four consecutive games from Jan. 12-Jan. 23. Over the stretch she averaged 22.7 points per game with a high of 25 coming against Mercy on Jan. 21. She had never scored 20-plus points in more than two straight games in her career before the four-game streak. Latham has scored 20 or more points in 10 games this season.
 
RACKING UP THE DOUBLE DOUBLES
Monique Chance has been filling the box score all season. She has eight double-doubles which is good for 53rd in the nation. Chance recorded four consecutive double-doubles from Dec. 19-Jan. 5. Last season, Chance tallied six double-doubles and has 19 total in her career.
 
LONGEST IN PROGRAM HISTORY
The Eagles posted their longest conference winning streak in program history as they won nine straight CACC games from Feb. 11-Dec. 19, 2012. Post closed out the 2011-12 season with four consecutive conference wins. The Eagles began 2012-13 with their best-ever CACC start with five straight victories. Post defeated Chestnut Hill, Wilmington, and Nyack twice during the streak. Felician ended the stretch with a 68-66 win over Post on Dec. 19.
 
PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATIONS
Post was selected to finish fifth in the North Division of the CACC in the preseason poll announced on Nov. 12. The Eagles received 35 total points in the poll. Caldwell garnered 89 points and 11 first place votes and was selected as the North Division favorite. Defending conference champion, Holy Family, earned 95 points and 11 first place votes and was tabbed as the South Division favorite.
 
SCHULER NAMES THE CAPTAINS FOR HIS INAGURAL CAMPAIGN
Post University women's basketball head coach Stephen Schuler named senior guard Casey Brooks, graduate student Monique Chance and junior guard Aubrey Latham captains for the 2012-13 season. Brooks is one of the Eagles' top shooters. She led the team and was second in the conference with a 38.9 shooting percentage from behind the arc. Chance was 13th in NCAA Division II with 11.3 rebounds per game and named CACC Honorable Mention in 2011-12. Latham led the Eagles in scoring in 2011-12, averaging 15.5 points per game. She comes into the season just 238 points away from 1,000 for her career.
