PREVIEW: Eagles Look To Sweep Season Series Against Bloomfield In Final Road Contest

Post Has Defeated The Deacons In Each Of The Last Two Matchups

The Post University women's basketball team travels to Bloomfield on Tuesday, Feb. 12 for its final road game of the season in a matchup between the third and fourth-place teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division. The Eagles have lost two in a row, but have defeated the Deacons in each of the last two matchups. Post currently holds the final playoff spot at a record of 10-13 overall and 8-8 in conference play with three games remaining.

The Eagles hit a season-high 15 shots from behind the arc on its way to victory over Bloomfield on Jan. 3. Post withstood a second-half rally by the Deacons to earn its sixth conference victory of the season. Junior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) was 6-for-8 from distance on her way to a season-high 29 points. Graduate student Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded her third consecutive double-double and fifth of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
 
The Eagles stormed out to a 17-4 lead by the 13:38 mark of the first as Latham, junior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.), and sophomore Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) scored from distance to build the advantage. Bloomfield closed the deficit to 21-12 with 10:34 remaining. Wright-James and Latham nailed two each from behind the arc as the Eagles pushed their lead to 64-35 at the 15:25 mark of the second, their largest advantage of the night.
 
Bloomfield would not lay down easily as it staged a 23-4 run over the next 7:26 to pull within 10 at 68-58 with just under eight minutes to play. Tierra Scott had three steals and eight points over the stretch for the Deacons. Post stole the momentum back, freshman Haley Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) and Latham hit from distance on the Eagles next two possessions to put the game out of reach.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Dominican 81, Post 73 – Recap | Box Score
Despite holding a 13-point lead in the second half, the Post University women's basketball team dropped a decision at Dominican on Wednesday night. Monique Chance led the Eagles with a career-high 23 points. Chance reached the milestone on 10-for-15 shooting. She also added six rebounds and two blocks. Aubrey Latham was 3-of-4 from behind the arc for 18 points and six boards.
 
Post fell behind 14-4 early as Dominican made four of its first five shots, including two from distance. Griffin nailed back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game up 16-16 at the 10:45 mark of the first. She hit another from long range minutes later to cap a 19-4 run and give Post a 23-18 advantage with 7:20 remaining.
 
Latham capped a 9-0 second half run with two from behind the arc to Post its largest lead of the night at 52-39 with 15:36 remaining. The Chargers slowly chipped away at the deficit as Bianca Harris scored six points to close the gap to 54-48 at the 13:57 mark. Lindsey Lopez nailed two from long range to tie the game at 62-62 with 7:00 left.
 
Lopez hit her sixth three-pointer of the game at 3:15 to give Dominican a 73-71 advantage. Chance made a jumper on the Eagles next possession to knot the score 73-73 with 2:59 remaining. Post was held scoreless for the remainder of the game as the Chargers scored eight straight points for the comeback victory.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
The Eagles are 3-18 overall against the Deacons, but have claimed victories in the last two matchups. Post last the last 14 games of the series before the current streak. The Eagles have never defeated Bloomfield on the road.

SCOUTING THE DEACONS
Bloomfield enters Tuesday's game at a record of 11-11 overall and 8-7 in conference play. They sit just ahead of Post in third place in the CACC North Division. The Deacons have lost three of their last five games, most recently a 64-62 defeat at the hands of Concordia on Feb. 6. Bloomfield leads the CACC with 13.5 steals per game and is second at 16.2 offensive boards per game. They are third in the nation with a 7.45 turnover margin. Junior guard Ivettlis Castro lead the team in scoring at 13.1 per contest. She is also third in the CACC with a 38.2 shooting percentage from deep. Freshman guard Ariel Wilson is second in the conference at 2.8 steals per game.
 
LATHAM SCORES 1,000 IN HER CAREER
Aubrey Latham scored 21 points against Concordia on Jan. 15 to join the Eagles' 1,000-Point Club. She hit the milestone with a layup in the first half against the Clippers. Latham is the fifth player in Post University history to score 1,000 points and is third on the all-time scoring list.

RECORD BREAKING PERFORMANCE
Junior Fernanda Mansilla has been putting her teammates in position to score all season. She leads the CACC and is sixth in the nation with 5.7 assists per contest. She broke Post's single-season assists record on Feb. 2 against Holy Family with five assists and now sits at 132 on the year. The old record was 119 set by Melissa Czeremcha during the 2003-04 campaign. Against Chestnut Hill on Dec. 8, Mansilla dished out 11 assists, the highest total by an Eagle since the 2004-05 season.
 
GRIFFIN HONORED AS TOP ROOKIE
Freshman Hailey Griffin was chosen as CACC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 14. Griffin averaged 12.5 points in two games for the week of Jan. 6- Jan. 12., including a career-high 14 points in an 80-61 victory over Nyack. She was 9-for-16 from the floor and 6-for-8 from distance for the week. She is the first Eagle to be honored by the conference this season.
 
AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
As of the NCAA Division II rankings from Feb. 10, Fernanda Mansilla ranks sixth in the nation with 5.7 assists per game. Monique Chance is 12th with 10.7 rebounds per game. The Eagles are 28th in the country with 7.1 made three-pointers per game.
 
EAGLES AMONG CACC LEADERS
Post averages 7.1 three-pointers made per game to lead the CACC and is third with a 31.5 shooting percentage from deep. The Eagles are the second-highest scoring team in the conference at 65.9 points per game. Fernanda Mansilla leads the conference with 5.7 assists per game. Aubrey Latham is third with 17.2 points per game. Monique Chance is second with 10.7 boards per game.
 
LIVE BY THE THREE
The Eagles have been knocking down shots from behind the arc all season. In nine of its victories this season, Post has taken over 20 shots from distance and made at least seven. The Eagles are the top three-point shooting team in the conference at 7.0 made per game. Against Bloomfield on Jan. 3, they made a season-high 15 from distance on 50.0% shooting.
 
CLIMBING UP THE CAREER LIST
With at team-leading 236 rebounds this season, Monique Chance has moved into second place in Post history for career rebounds. Chance sits at 792 boards for her career. Tadj Williams, who played from 2003-06, is first with 891 career rebounds.
 
SCORING 20-PLUS
Aubrey Latham scored 20 points in four consecutive games from Jan. 12-Jan. 23. Over the stretch she averaged 22.7 points per game with a high of 25 coming against Mercy on Jan. 21. She had never scored 20-plus points in more than two straight games in her career before the four-game streak. Latham has scored 20 or more points in nine games this season.
 
RACKING UP THE DOUBLE DOUBLES
Monique Chance has been filling the box score all season. She has seven double-doubles which is good for 53rd in the nation. Chance recorded four consecutive double-doubles from Dec. 19-Jan. 5. Last season, Chance tallied seven double-doubles and has 18 total in her career.
 
LONGEST IN PROGRAM HISTORY
The Eagles posted their longest conference winning streak in program history as they won nine straight CACC games from Feb. 11-Dec. 19, 2012. Post closed out the 2011-12 season with four consecutive conference wins. The Eagles began 2012-13 with their best-ever CACC start with five straight victories. Post defeated Chestnut Hill, Wilmington, and Nyack twice during the streak. Felician ended the stretch with a 68-66 win over Post on Dec. 19.
 
PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATIONS
Post was selected to finish fifth in the North Division of the CACC in the preseason poll announced on Nov. 12. The Eagles received 35 total points in the poll. Caldwell garnered 89 points and 11 first place votes and was selected as the North Division favorite. Defending conference champion, Holy Family, earned 95 points and 11 first place votes and was tabbed as the South Division favorite.
 
SCHULER NAMES THE CAPTAINS FOR HIS INAGURAL CAMPAIGN
Post University women's basketball head coach Stephen Schuler named senior guard Casey Brooks, graduate student Monique Chance and junior guard Aubrey Latham captains for the 2012-13 season. Brooks is one of the Eagles' top shooters. She led the team and was second in the conference with a 38.9 shooting percentage from behind the arc. Chance was 13th in NCAA Division II with 11.3 rebounds per game and named CACC Honorable Mention in 2011-12. Latham led the Eagles in scoring in 2011-12, averaging 15.5 points per game. She comes into the season just 238 points away from 1,000 for her career.
