RUTHERFORD, N.J. -Â Freshman
Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn.) led four Post players in double-figures with 23 points as the Eagles picked up their second win in three games and their third straight win in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with a 95-74 win at Felician. The 23 points were a career-high for Falcigno in her short career.
The two teams lit up the baskets for the first nine minutes of the game and traded hoops before Post (3-4, 3-0 CACC) was able to get a little bit of breathing room, taking a 28-20 lead after baskets by senior
Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) and junior
Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.). The Eagles were able to hold the Golden Falcons (1-6, 1-2 CACC) at bay for the rest of the half, not letting them get any closer than six points, and eventually extending the lead to 11 at 46-35 before the horn sounded.Â
Falcigno led the Eagles with 17 points at the break on a scorching 6-for-7 from the field, including 2-for-3 from the three-point line. Senior
Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) finished with 10 points in the half. As a team, the Eagles shot 53.3 percent from the field and held Felician to 42.9 percent from the field.
The Eagles wouldn't let up as the second half began, going on a 17-5 run to begin the half, and extending their lead to 63-40. During that run, plenty of the Post players chipped in with points, including Wright-James, sophomore
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.), freshman
Jessica Ayala (MIddletown, N.Y.), Falcigno and Latham.
The Golden Falcons would get no closer than 15 the rest of the way, thanks to a 27-10 run near the latter stages of the second half, disposing of any comeback attempt Felician may have had in the tank.
For the game, Latham finished with 20 points, four assists and three rebounds. She now sits at 1,367 points in her career, trailing only
Tracey Garofalo, who has 1,510 points in her career. Griffin finished with 21 points, six rebounds and six assists and Wight-James finished with 14 points.
The Eagles dominated in the paint, outscoring the Golden Falcons, 48-32. They also took advantage of Felician's mistakes, outscoring them 24-15 in points off of turnovers. The suffocating defense of the Eagles held the Golden Falcons to 37.8 percent shooting, including 33.3 percent in the second half.
Up next for the Eagles is the New York Institute of Technology in a non-conference road game scheduled for 1 p.m. on December 1st.
