Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Despite a halftime lead and three players in double figures, the Post University women's basketball team dropped an 87-72 decision to Southern Connecticut State University in an out-of-conference in-state matchup in New Haven, Conn.

Post came out firing on all cylinders, jumping to a 12-2 lead less than four minutes into the game.  During that stretch, the Eagles (2-4, 2-0 CACC) hit three three-pointers, including two from senior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) and one by sophomore Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.). Latham would finish with 21 points in the game.

The Owls would creep back into the game slowly, and eventually tied the game at 19 apiece after a layup by Jackie Beathea with 12:11 left in the first half.

The teams would trade leads back and forth throughout the middle part of the first half, and eventually tied again at 36-36, but Post closed out with an 8-5 run at the end, taking a 44-41 lead into the locker room.

In the first half, Griffin had five points and six assists and senior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) had 14 points. Latham had 17 points at the break. The Eagles shot 53.8 percent in the first half from the field.

Post would extend their lead to six points early on in the second half after a Griffin three-pointer, making the score 49-43.

The teams would trade baskets for the next five minutes, and eventually tied at 58-58 with 13:33 left in the game. The Owls (3-2, 0-1 Northeast-10) would then go on a 21-8 run over the next seven minutes, all but sealing the outcome of the game. Post wouldn't get any closer and the Owls won, 87-72.

Griffin finished with 15 points on the game and added seven assists. SCSU outscore the Eagles 36-13 in points off of turnovers after the Eagles held a 13-12 advantage at the break.
