WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Caldwell Wednesday night at the Drubner Center. The set scores were 20-25, 19-25, 17-25. Senior
Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) recorded a double-double for the Eagles with 11 kills and 10 digs. It was Post's eighth straight loss.
Sophomore
Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) had 13 digs and a service ace for Post. Freshman
Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) added six kills, four digs and a service ace.
With the score knotted at 6-6 early in the opening set, Caldwell went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-7 lead. The Cougars extended the lead to five at 14-9 before two Wilman kills brought the Eagles back within just two. Caldwell kept the pressure on however, and Post couldn't catch up in time, falling 25-20.
Post jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the second set, but Caldwell scored the next five points. After a Kallmann kill pulled Post within one point at 8-7, the Cougars scored four straight, forcing a Post timeout. The Eagles worked their way back to trail by only two (14-12), but then Caldwell went on a 10-1 run. With Kallmann serving, Post kept on fighting and scored six in a row to make it 24-19, but it wasn't enough.
Despite falling behind 3-1 in the third set, the Eagles scored the next six points capped off by a Wilman kill which made it 7-3. Then Caldwell took over, scoring the next four points as part of a 14-5 run that gave the Cougars a 17-12 advantage. Caldwell would extend the lead to seven at 21-14 and took the final set easily, 25-17.
Sophomore
Jennifer Lombardo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) added 10 digs, and freshman
Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) posted three kills, four digs, two block assists and an ace. Junior
Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) had 19 assists, topping 1,500 on her career.
Taylor Zaeske stole the show, leading Caldwell with 13 kills and five service aces. The Cougars improve to 15-10 on the season and 12-3 in the CACC.
Post falls to 4-20 (4-11 CACC) and closes out its home schedule on Saturday, Nov. 2 against Goldey-Beacom at 1 p.m. at the Drubner Center.
