Kallmann Racks up Nine Kills for Post

Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team fell to Wilmington 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. The set scores were 23-25, 14-25, 19-25. Freshman Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) led the way for Post with nine kills.

Freshman Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) had five kills, three blocks and two service aces. Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) added six kills, eight digs and an ace for the Eagles.

Despite falling behind 5-2 to start the first set, the Eagles came right back thanks to two aces and a kill from Brown to take a 6-5 lead. Two kills by Kallmann and an ace by Wilman helped the Eagles to grab an 11-8 lead, and Post would extend the lead to six at 18-12, forcing a Wilmington timeout. Then the Wildcats made quite the comeback using an 11-4 run to regain the lead 23-22. After a Post timeout, Tilmington took two of the next three points to win the set 25-23.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead to open the second set, but it was all Wilmington after that. Down 3-1, the Wildcats scored 14 straight points behind a strong serving effort by Shelby Henderson, giving Wilmington a commanding 15-3 lead. The Wildcats would go on to take a 25-14 set win.

Post scored the first two points of the third set before Wilmington went on a 5-2 run to go on top 5-4. The Eagles trailed by four at 13-9 but fought back to make it a one point game (14-13) after a Kallmann kill. However, the Wildcats went on a 6-1 run to extend the lead to six at 20-14, forcing a Post timeout. Post rallied to come within three after a kill by Kallmann, but Wilmington ended the match on a 4-1 run.

Senior Stephanie Zarakas (Patterson, N.Y.) added four kills, a service ace and a block assist for Post. The loss was Post's seventh in a row, falling into sixth place in the CACC North standings.

Shelby Henderson had an astonishing five service aces to go along with 13 digs for Wilmington. The Eagles (18-9, 13-2 CACC) remain atop the CACC South standings.

Post (4-19, 4-10 CACC) will welcome Caldwell to the Drubner Center next on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
