WALTHAM, Mass. – The No. 9 Post University men's soccer team and Bentley played to a 1-1 tie on Wednesday afternoon in Waltham, Mass. It's the first tie for the Eagles this season and their first regular-season draw since Oct. 3, 2012 against Bloomfield, 0-0.
"We played poorly in the first half and gave them a goal," said head coach
Ted Haley. "We dominated the second half and had some chances but couldn't capitalize. They are a very good, well-coached team that knows how to grind out results."
Bentley got on the board first in the 36
th minute. The Post defense attempted to clear the ball from its zone by Marty Ryan blocked the attempt and the ball deflected off an Eagle defender into the goal. The teams played evenly in the first half but the Falcons held a slight 7-6 advantage in shots.
Post turned up the pressure in the second half and held an 11-5 shot advantage in the period. Senior
Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.) was fouled in the penalty area and made his penalty shot for to tie the game in the 75
th minute.
In the overtime periods each team attempted a shot but neither could break through. Post held an 18-13 advantage in shots and 6-4 in shots on goal. Baccielo led with five attempts while freshman
Armando Filho (Cataguases, Brazil) and senior
Jean Louis Cadet (Sunrise, Fla.) each added three shots.
The Eagles get back into conference play on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they make their first-ever trip to Georgian Court. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
