Season-High 15 Threes Power Eagles Over Bloomfield, 80-68

Latham's 29 Points On 6-for-8 From Distance Leads The Way

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team hit a season-high 15 shots from behind the arc on its way to an 80-68 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Bloomfield. The Eagles withstood a second-half rally by the Deacons to earn their sixth conference victory of the season.
 
Junior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) was 6-for-8 from distance on her way to a season-high 29 points. Graduate student Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded her third consecutive double-double and fifth of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Junior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) went 4-for-6 from behind the arc and scored 12 points.
 
The Eagles stormed out to a 17-4 lead by the 13:38 mark of the first as Latham, Wright-James, and sophomore Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) scored from distance to build the advantage. Bloomfield closed the deficit to 21-12 with 10:34 remaining, but could not manage to get closer.
 
The hot outside shooting continued for Post as it built the lead up to as many as 22 in the first half. Junior Fernanda Mansilla (Ancud, Chile) drove the lane and finished inside to put the Eagles ahead 41-19 with 3:25 left in the half. Post took a 48-26 advantage into the intermission.
 
Wright-James and Latham nailed two each from behind the arc as the Eagles pushed their lead to 64-35 at the 15:25 mark of the second, their largest advantage of the night.
 
Bloomfield would not lay down easily as it staged a 23-4 run over the next 7:26 to pull within 10 at 68-58 with just under eight minutes to play. Tierra Scott had three steals and eight points over the stretch for the Deacons.
 
Post stole the momentum back, freshman Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) and Latham hit from distance on the Eagles next two possessions to put the game out of reach.
 
The Eagles held a 38-24 advantage on the defensive glass and a 45-37 rebounding margin overall. The turned the ball over a season-high 26 times which led to 24 points for the Deacons. Post shot a season-high 47.4 percent from the field.
 
Post will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 5 as it travels to Philadelphia looking for its seventh CACC victory of the season. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
