PREVIEW: Eagles Look For Fourth Consecutive Home Victory Against Dominican

All Proceeds Of The Contest Will Go To Benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Post University women's basketball team looks for its fourth straight home victory as it hosts Dominican in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday night. The Eagles enter game off a 64-49 victory over Mercy on Monday.
 
The contest will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation and all proceeds from the game will benefit the charitable organization. T-shirts will be available with a suggested donation of $7 for students and $10 for the general public. The partnership between NCAA Division II and Make-A-Wish Foundation has been in place since 2003.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Post 64, Mercy 49 – Recap | Box Score
The Eagles won their third straight home game on Monday night as they defeated Mercy 64-49 in a non-conference contest at the Drubner Center. Junior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) led all scorers with 25 points in the victory.
 
With the score tied 8-8, Post staged an 8-1 run to take their largest lead of the period at 16-9 at the 10:09 mark. Sophomore Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) was 4-for-4 from the foul line during the stretch.Mercy responded with a 9-4 run to tie the game 28-28 with 2:20 remaining in the half. Latham made two free throws and Pugh nailed a jumper off a fast break to give the Eagles a 32-28 lead at the break.
 
Freshman Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) and junior Jessica Webber (Naugatuck, Conn.) each scored three points as part of a 13-4 run by Post that put the game out of reach at 60-47 with 1:51 remaining.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
Post is 5-15 against Dominican since 2002. The Eagles have won the last three games against the Chargers including two straight at home. Dominican's last victory at the Drubner Center came in 2009.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
Dominican comes into the contest in first place in the CACC North Division at 10-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Chargers have won four of their past five games, most recently a 72-47 victory over Felician. Dominican has the top shooting percentage in the conference at 38.6%. They are third in three-point shooting percentage (31.7%) and free-throw percentage (69.5%). The Chargers are led by KC Jentzen with 13.4 points per game. She is second on the team with 8.0 rebounds per game.
 
LATHAM SCORES 1,000 IN HER CAREER
Aubrey Latham scored 21 points against Concordia on Jan. 15 to join the Eagles' 1,000-Point Club. She hit the milestone with a layup in the first half against the Clippers. Latham is the fifth player in Post University history to score 1,000 points.

GRIFFIN HONORED AS TOP ROOKIE
Freshman Hailey Griffin was chosen as CACC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 14. Griffin averaged 12.5 points in two games for the week of Jan. 6- Jan. 12., including a career-high 14 points in an 80-61 victory over Nyack. She was 9-for-16 from the floor and 6-for-8 from distance for the week. She is the first Eagle to be honored by the conference this season.
 
AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
As of the NCAA Division II rankings from Jan. 20, Fernanda Mansilla ranks eighth in the nation with 5.7 assists per game. Monique Chance is 39th with 9.8 rebounds per game and is 30th with six double-doubles. The Eagles are 19th in the country with 7.7 made three-pointers per game.
 
EAGLES AMONG CACC LEADERS
Post averages 7.7 three-pointers made per game to lead the CACC and is second with a 32.0 shooting percentage from deep. The Eagles are also the highest scoring team in the conference at 67.4 points per game. Fernanda Mansilla leads the conference with 5.7 assists per game. Aubrey Latham is fifth in the CACC with 16.7 points per game and three-point shooting percentage at 35.9%. Monique Chance is third with 9.8 boards per game.
 
LIVE BY THE THREE
The Eagles have been knocking down shots from behind the arc all season. In all eight victories this season, Post has taken over 20 shots from distance and made at least seven. The Eagles are the top three-point shooting team in the conference at 7.7 made per game. Against Bloomfield on Jan. 3, they made a season-high 15 from distance on 50.0% shooting.
 
DISHING OUT THE ASSISTS
Junior Fernanda Mansilla has been putting her teammates in position to score all season. She leads the CACC and is eighth in the nation with 5.7 assists per contest. Her 97 assists is the sixth-best single-season total in school history. Against Chestnut Hill on Dec. 8, Mansilla dished out 11 assists, the highest total by an Eagle since the 2004-05 season.
 
CLIMBING UP THE CAREER LIST
With at team-leading 172 rebounds this season, Monique Chance has moved into second place in Post history for career rebounds. Chance sits at 728 boards for her career. Tadj Williams, who played from 2003-06, is first with 891 career rebounds.
 
RACKING UP THE DOUBLE DOUBLES
Monique Chance has been filling the box score all season. She has six double-doubles which is good for 30th in the nation. Chance saw her streak of four consecutive double-digit points and rebounds games end Jan. 9 against Nyack. Last season, Chance recorded seven double-doubles and has 17 total in her career.
 
LONGEST IN PROGRAM HISTORY
The Eagles posted their longest conference winning streak in program history as they won nine straight CACC games from Feb. 11-Dec. 19, 2012. Post closed out the 2011-12 season with four consecutive conference wins. The Eagles began 2012-13 with their best-ever CACC start with five straight victories. Post defeated Chestnut Hill, Wilmington, and Nyack twice during the streak. Felician ended the stretch with a 68-66 win over Post on Dec. 19.
 
PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATIONS
Post was selected to finish fifth in the North Division of the CACC in the preseason poll announced on Nov. 12. The Eagles received 35 total points in the poll. Caldwell garnered 89 points and 11 first place votes and was selected as the North Division favorite. Defending conference champion, Holy Family, earned 95 points and 11 first place votes and was tabbed as the South Division favorite.
 
SCHULER NAMES THE CAPTAINS FOR HIS INAGURAL CAMPAIGN
Post University women's basketball head coach Stephen Schuler named senior guard Casey Brooks, graduate student Monique Chance and junior guard Aubrey Latham captains for the 2012-13 season. Brooks is one of the Eagles' top shooters. She led the team and was second in the conference with a 38.9 shooting percentage from behind the arc. Chance was 13th in NCAA Division II with 11.3 rebounds per game and named CACC Honorable Mention in 2011-12. Latham led the Eagles in scoring in 2011-12, averaging 15.5 points per game. She comes into the season just 238 points away from 1,000 for her career.
