Eagles Open CACC Play With Victory Over Concordia

Wilman Records Double-Double, 10 Kills And 16 Digs

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University volleyball team won its first match of the 2012 season on Thursday night with a 3-1 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Concordia. The match was close throughout and the final scores were, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24.
 
Junior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) recorded 10 kills and 16 digs in the victory. Senior captain Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) added 10 kills and four service aces. Senior Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) each had three block assists.
 
Concordia won a hard-fought first set as neither team could gain an edge. With the Eagles holding an early 10-9 lead, helped by a kill and a service ace by Hayes, the Clippers launched a 5-2 run to pull ahead 14-12. Post took a late 20-19 lead, but a 6-3 Concordia run put the set away.
 
Post powered ahead to an 11-7 advantage in the second. Four attack errors by the Eagles helped Concordia erase the deficit and pull in front 14-11. Post tied the set at 14-14 and the teams traded points and were tied 22-22 late. Wilman scored three clutch kills to give the Eagles the set.
 
The Clippers jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the third stanza. Post answered with a 7-0 run to take a 14-10 advantage. Hayes had two service aces during the stretch. Concordia cut the deficit to 23-21 late, but the Eagles prevailed.
 
With the final set tied 10-10, Concordia used a 6-2 run to pull in front 16-12. The Eagles responded by scoring four straight to knot the set at 16-16. Post held a 23-20 lead late, but the Clippers came back to tie it at 24-24.
 
Irina Impellittiere led all players with 13 kills. Alicia Vogel had 40 assists for the Clippers.
 
Post will be back in action in a tri-match on Saturday in Manchester, N.H. The Eagles face NYIT at 2 p.m. and Southern New Hampshire at 4 p.m.
