BELMONT PLATEAU, Pa. – The Eagles men's and women's cross country teams ran in the 33
rd Philadelphia Metropolitan Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon. The men's team finished 11
th out of 14 schools on the 8K course at Fairmount Park in Belmont Plateau, Pa. The women, in their first race as a team, placed 13
th out of 16 teams in the 5K.
Freshman
Justin Fluker (Meriden, Conn.) was the top men's finisher. He placed 44
th out of 113 runners with a time of 33:29. Sophomore
Jesse Perez (Waterbury, Conn.) placed 47
th with a time of 33:48.
Junior
Veronica Blekis (Plymouth, Conn.) led the women's team with a time of 23:59 to finish in 42
nd out of 124. Freshman
Jessica Lavelle (Thurmont, Md.) clock a time of 25:35 and placed 58
th.
Wilmington and Philadelphia placed first in the men's and women's races, respectively. Felician's Rob Albano won the men's individual at 27:28. Wilmington's Althea Davidson took the women's race with a time of 20:12.
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 as they host the Post Invitational at Hop Brook State Park in Naugatuck, Conn. The race goes off at 4:30 p.m.
