Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short At Georgian Court, Falls 72-65

Eagles Cannot Overcome 10-Point Halftime Deficit

LAKEWOOD, N.J. –
Despite outscoring Georgian Court 37-34 in the second half, the Post University women's basketball team lost to the host Lions 72-65 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Wellness Center. Senior Kelli Reynolds (Milford, Conn.) led the Eagles with 21 points. She added six rebounds.
 
Juniors Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) and Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.) joined Reynolds in double figures with 17 and 10 points, respectively. Latham finished a rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. Senior Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also grabbed nine caroms.
 
With 5:22 remaining in the opening half, and the score 27-23 in favor of Georgian Court (5-17, 4-11 CACC), the Lions used a 13-0 run over a span of 2:56 to grow its lead to 15 points, 38-23, with 1:54 to play before halftime. The run capped on a free throw by Brittany Baker.
 
On the ensuing possession, Reynolds stopped the Georgian Court run and started a 5-0 Post run to close the stanza for the Eagles. She scored four points during the spurt, including a jumper and a pair of free throws, while Diaysha Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) hit a foul shot as well. At the break, Post trailed 38-28.
 
In the second half, the Eagles got as close as five points, 42-37, with 12:48 to play after an 8-0 Post (5-15, 3-10 CACC) run. Latham hit a pair of layups during the run, Reynolds sank a pair of free throws and sophomore Colleen Hanscom (Melrose, Mass.) added a layup for her lone basket of the contest.
 
After the Lions grew their lead as large as 17 points, 63-46, with 4:50 to play, Post scored 19 of the final 28 points in the game to close the gap in the final minutes. Reynolds hit a jumper with six seconds to play to arrive at the final score of 72-65.
 
Georgian Court shot 4.6 percent from the field and Ebony Sellers led a quartet of Lions in double figures with 15 points. The hosts scored 36 points in the paint against just 14 for Post; however, the Eagles held a slight edge in points off turnovers with a mark of 21-18.
 
The Eagles will host the Concordia Clippers on Tuesday, Feb. 7, in a CACC doubleheader. The women's game will begin at 6 p.m., at the Drubner Center.
