Late Reynolds Layup Leads Eagles Over Deacons, 69-68

Post Wins Back-To-Back Games For First Time This Season

WATERBURY, Conn. – With 2.3 seconds remaining Kelli Reynolds (Milford, Conn.) drove the lane and put up a right-handed layup to give the Eagles a 69-68 victory against Bloomfield at the Drubner Center on Thursday, Feb. 16. Post stands in fifth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North division two games out of the final playoff spot with two to play.
 
Two free throws by Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) with 30 seconds left gave the Eagles a 67-63 advantage. Out of a timeout, Bloomfield's Emily Hall found Ivettlis Castro behind the arc and she nailed the jumper to cut the deficit to 67-66. Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.) missed the front end of a one-and-one as the Deacons grabbed the rebound.
 
Castro drove to the hoop and was fouled by Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with eight seconds remaining. She nailed both from the line to put Bloomfield ahead 68-67. Latham found Reynolds at mid-court and she drove for the winning basket.
 
The Eagles took control early in the first as they opened up a 15-8 lead at the 14:29 mark of the half. Reynolds scored eight of the first 15 points for Post. Taylor Doyle (Mystic, Conn.) hit two from distance as part of a 26-7 run that put the Eagles ahead 30-15, their largest lead of the game, with 7:57 remaining. The Deacons staged a 17-4 run of their own to pull within two at 34-32 with 1:20 left in the half. Post took a 38-34 advantage into the break.
 
Latham scored a game-high 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting, including 2-for-3 from distance. Chance scored 11 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Diaysha Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) had 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.
 
The Eagles held a 21-0 advantage in second chance points and outscored the Deacons bench 16-7.
 
Post will head to Wilmington on Saturday, Feb. 18 for the final road game of the season as it looks for its third straight victory. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
