Chance Jumper With 3.1 Seconds Left Gives Eagles Victory Over Molloy, 73-72

Post Wins Its First Non-Conference Game of the Season, Third Consecutive Victory Overall

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Down 72-71 with 3.1 seconds left in the game, graduate student Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y) hit a jumper in the lane to give the Eagles a 73-72 triumph over Molloy on Thursday night. The victory is the first non-conference win for Post this season and its third consecutive overall.
 
Senior Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y) hit two free throws with 1:37 left to break a 69-69 tie and put the Eagles ahead 71-69. Kimani Jackson drove in for a layup to knot it up again and drew a foul from Chance. Jackson hit her shot from the line as the Lions led 72-71 with 1:16 remaining.
 
After a miss by Post, Molloy grabbed the rebound and called a timeout. Ashley Addison attempted a layup, but Chance swatted it away and grabbed the board as the Eagles took a timeout with 19 seconds left to setup the final play.
 
Junior Jessica Webber (Naugatuck, Conn.) turned in a career-high 23 points and hit 5-for-9 from behind the arc. Brooks added 22 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Junior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) grabbed 13 boards. Chance finished with six points, eight rebounds, and five blocks.
 
The Eagles began the game hitting four of their first six threes as they built a 12-4 lead at the 16:10 mark of the first half. Webber made two from distance during the stretch. Post extended its lead to as many as 10 at 24-14 with 9:32 remaining.
 
Molloy answered with a 13-2 run to take its first lead of the contest at 27-26 at the 6:26 mark. Brooks hit a three to put the Eagles ahead 31-27 with just under six minutes remaining in the half. The Lions came back with a 13-5 run to take a 40-36 advantage into the break.
 
The Eagles stormed back to tie the game 50-50 five minutes in to the second stanza. Both teams traded leads throughout the half, but neither could pull away. Chance scored three points as part of a 6-1 run to give Post a late 69-64 lead with 3:08 remaining.
 
Post outrebounded Molloy 21-12 on the offensive glass and turned it into a 24-7 advantage in second-chance points. The Eagles also scored 12 points off turnovers to the Lions four. Post hit a season-high 11 shots from distance and shot 18-for-22 from the charity stripe.
 
The Eagles look to continue their winning ways at Chestnut Hill on Saturday, Dec. 8. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
