WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University volleyball team fell to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North foe Concordia 3-2 on Thursday night at the Drubner Center. Set scores were 25-9, 21-25, 25-15, 23-25, and 13-15. The Eagles fall to 9-16 overall and 8-9 in CACC play with just two games remaining.
Graduate student
Kelli Reynolds (Stamford, Conn.) led all players 17 kills on the night. Junior
Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) tallied a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore
Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) had six service aces and 11 digs. Graduate student
Vanessa Ramos (Milford, Conn.) added 19 digs.
Senior
Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) scored two kills as the Eagles built a 5-0 lead to start the final set. Concordia closed within two, but Post built the lead to 10-5, helped by three errors by the Clippers. An 8-2 run gave Concordia its first lead at 13-12 and forced a timeout by the Eagles. Post couldn't recover and fell 15-13.
The Eagles used five service aces to storm out to a 12-4 lead in the first set. Slyaktina recorded two aces during the stretch. Post didn't let up and two consecutive kills by Hayes gave the Eagles a 21-7 advantage. Reynolds had three kills in the set.
With the score tied 5-5, Concordia used a 6-2 run to pull ahead 11-7 and force a timeout by Post in the second stanza. The Clippers extended their advantage to 19-12. Hayes and Reynolds each scored two kills as the Eagles cut the deficit to 24-20 late.
Four consecutive errors by Concordia to start the third set helped Post build a 9-2 lead. The Eagles extended their advantage to 16-8 after a kill by Reynolds. The Clippers responded with six straight points to close the gap to 16-12. Wilman launched four kills as part of a 9-3 run to close out the set.
Neither team could gain a clear advantage in the fourth set. With the score tied 11-11, Concordia scored three straight points to build the largest lead for either team at 14-11. The Eagles battled back with a 10-6 run to pull ahead 21-20. Reynolds recorded two kills during the comeback. The Clippers scored two kills with the score tied 23-23 to send the match to a deciding fifth set.
The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow night at Goldey-Beacom. First service is scheduled for 6 p.m.
