NAUGATUCK, Conn. – The Post University men's and women's cross country teams ran against Bridgeport and Caldwell on Wednesday afternoon at Hop Brook State Park in Naugatuck, Conn. The men defeated Bridgeport, 23-32, head-to-head. The women also defeated Bridgeport, 24-31, but fell to Caldwell, 30-25.
The Eagles held four of the top five spots in the men's race. Sophomore
Jesse Perez (Waterbury, Conn.) finished first out of 12 with a time of 17:41. Freshman
Rob Gaertner (Wantagh, N.Y.) was third at 17:54.8, eight tenths of a second behind Adam Glantz of Bridgeport. Freshman
Justin Fluker (Meriden, Conn.), and junior
Wesley Sanival (Norwalk, Conn.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 18:05 and 19:01.
Junior
Veronica Blekis (Plymouth, Conn.) clocked a time of 21:49 to finish in second place out of 18 in the women's race. Sophomore
Amber Reed (Bristol, Conn.) was in fifth place at 23:17. Freshman
Jessica Lavelle (Thurmont, Md.) finished just behind her in sixth at a time of 23:21.
The women's race was won by Caldwell's Taylor Landis. Caldwell defeated Bridgeport in their head-to-head matchup, 21-34.
The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 21 at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships at Fairmount Park in Belmont Plateau, Pa. The race goes off at 10 a.m.
