WATERBURY, Conn. - The Post women's basketball team dropped a close Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game to Philadelphia at the Drubner Center Saturday afternoon. The final score was 79-73. The Eagles boasted three players in double figures, led by junior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.), who poured in 22 points.
Senior Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 17 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) notched 15 points and tied for a team-high with eight rebounds. Senior Kelli Reynolds (Milford, Conn.) also turned in an eight rebound performance.
Latham scored the first basket of the game, a triple, 45 seconds into the contest. From there Philadelphia (10-4, 5-1 CACC) claimed a one-point advantage with 17:16 remaining in the period. The Rams grew the lead as large as 10 points on two occasions. The first was on a Christine Wooding layup eight minutes in that made the score 18-8 in favor of the visiting Rams. The second came with 9:51 remaining in the half on a Stephanie Agger layup. The score following Agger's basket was 23-13.
However, Post (3-9, 1-4 CACC) fought back with a 14-4 run over the final 4:07 of the first half. The spurt started with a jump shot from Chance. Latham hit two three-pointers in the final 65 seconds of the period. She finished the game 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, and gave the Eagles a 40-36 lead at the intermission.
Post took its largest lead of the game, a 48-42 advantage, on a Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.) layup with 16:44 to go in the game.
Philadelphia claimed the lead for good with 4:24 to play after a Najah Jacobs basket. The score following Jacobs field goal was 69-67. The Rams held on to claim their fifth CACC win of the year.
For the game, the Eagles tallied 28 points in the paint and scored 10 second chance points on 12 offensive rebounds. Post shot 10-for-12 from the free throw line, including a perfect 6-for-6 in the second half.
Post will begin a four-game road trip at Nyack on Thursday, Jan. 12. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
