WATERBURY, Conn. (January 5, 2012) Monique Chance hit a jumper in the lane with 0:14 left to give the Eagles a 65-63 victory over CACC-leading Dominican on Thursday night. Chance finished with eight points and nine rebounds in the win.
Early on the Eagles could not stop the Chargers center, Bianca Harris, as she kept finding space underneath the hoop to lead Dominican to a 30-19 lead with 5:25 remaining in the first. The Eagles slowly chipped away, going on a 10-1 run to end the half, and went into the locker room down 31-29. Kelli Reynolds had a strong half for Post with 10 points.
The teams traded shots for the first few minutes of the second half as each time Post tied it up, Dominican would pull ahead. Raven Wright-James hit a three-pointer at 13:11 to give the Eagles their first lead of the half at 40-39. Reynolds powered the offense as they extended the lead to 52-46 with 7:57 remaining.
The Chargers would battle back to tie the score at 61-61 with one minute left. After another Reynolds hoop, two free throws by Lashonda Hathorne tied it up again with just 27 seconds remaining. On the ensuing possession, Chance hit a runner in the lane to give the Eagles the lead for good, as they fought off a late layup chance by Marley Klunk to take home the 65-63 victory.
Reynolds had her best game of the season, finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She also went 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Wright-James shot 5-for-6 for 12 points coming off the bench.
The Eagles have a day off before hosting Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.
