PREVIEW: Eagles Travel To Take On Top Team In CACC North

Women’s Basketball Visits Dominican On Tuesday Night

DOMINICAN, N.Y – The Post University women's basketball team visits Dominican College on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.. The Eagles defeated the first place Chargers at Drubner on Jan. 5 and will be looking for the season sweep.
 
LAST TIME OUT: GOLDEY-BEACOM 75, POST 59  RECAP | BOX
Goldey-Beacom went ahead early with a 9-2 run, capped off by a three-point play by Irene Hudson at the 15:45 mark. The Lightning extended their advantage to 20-11 with 11:15 remaining in the stanza.
 
The Eagles found their touch midway through the first and went on a 9-0 run to tie the game 20-20 and gain control. A late baseline three-pointer by Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) took Post into the locker room with a 39-35 advantage.
 
Reynolds scored the first basket of the second half to put the Eagles ahead 41-35. Irene Hudson and Akilah Sewell each scored four, as Goldey-Beacom went on an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 43-41 advantage. Jessica Webber (Naugatuck, Conn.) cut the deficit to 55-54 with 9:41 remaining.
 
The Lightning closed Post out with a 20-5 scoring stretch over the final ten minutes. Three Eagles finished with double-digit scoring efforts, led by Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) with 19 points.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
The Eagles have defeated the Charges just twice in the last six meetings between the two, but none of the wins have come away from home. Earlier this season, Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit a layup with 14 seconds remaining to give the Eagles the 65-63 victory at Drubner. The other triumph came on Feb. 17, 2011, in which Post won 63-58 at home.
 
LATHAM LEADS THE WAY:
Junior Aubrey Latham was named Central Atlantic Athletic Conference (CACC) Honorable Mention for the week of Jan. 22-Jan-28. In three games that week she averaged, 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest. The Eagles went 1-2 during the stretch, with the lone victory coming at Concordia on Jan. 24, 83-74, where Latham tied a season-high with 29 points. She nearly outscored the Clippers with 22 points in the first half to the opponents 23 points. Latham leads the team with 14.3 points per game and 2.2 assists per contest.
 
AMONG THE TOP OF DIVISION II:
Through the games on Jan. 26, the Eagles have two players ranked in the top-40 in three categories in NCAA Division II. Latham currently ranks 39th in free throw percentage. She is shooting 66-for-78 from the line for a percentage of 84.6 percent. Chance ranks 22th in rebounds per game and 34th in blocked shots per game. She averages 10.2 rebounds per contest and has 184 total rebounds. She also has 38 blocks, good for a 2.1 blocks per game average.
 
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS:
Dominican comes into Wednesday's contest having won five of their last seven games, and five of six against CACC opponents. Their last CACC defeat came in a 55-50 loss to Chestnut Hill on Jan. 24. The Chargers are led by junior guard Lindsey Lopez, who averages 10.3 points per game. She also shoots 48.8 percent from distance, which is good for 7th in NCAA Division II. As a team Dominican is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country at 36.7 percent, 11th in Division II.
 
ON THE HORIZON:
The Eagles will travel to take on Georgian Court on Saturday, Feb. 4. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. In their home opener this season on Nov. 16, 2011, Post defeated the Lions 93-77.
