Strong Second Half Leads Goldey-Beacom Over Post

Three Eagles With Double-Digit Scoring Efforts

WATERBURY, Conn. – Despite an eleven point halftime lead, the Post University women's basketball team was defeated 75-59 by Goldey-Beacom on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Drubner Center. Junior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) led the Eagles with 19 points.
 
Two other Eagles tallied double-digit scoring efforts. Sophomore Colleen Hanscom (Melrose, Mass.) scored 12 points off the bench. Kelli Reynolds (Milford, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points. Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down 11 boards.
 
Goldey-Beacom went ahead early with a 9-2 run, capped off by a three-point play by Irene Hudson at the 15:45 mark. The Lightning extended their advantage to 20-11 with 11:15 remaining in the stanza.
 
The Eagles found their touch midway through the first and went on a 9-0 run to tie the game 20-20 and gain control. A late baseline three-pointer by Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) took Post into the locker room with a 39-35 advantage.
 
Post had a tough time making baskets most of the half, but great free throw shooting kept the game within reach. Post shot 14-for-16 from the line in the period. Latham was 5-for-6 from the line and scored 16 points in the first half.
 
Reynolds scored the first basket of the second half to put the Eagles ahead 41-35. Irene Hudson and Akilah Sewell each scored four, as Goldey-Beacom went on an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 43-41 advantage. Jessica Webber (Naugatuck, Conn.) cut the deficit to 55-54 with 9:41 remaining.
 
The Lightning closed the Eagles out with a 20-5 scoring stretch over the final ten minutes. Devonne Richardson scored 10 of her 27 total points during the run.
 
Post shot 18-for-21 from the free throw line on the day. The Eagles bench held a 19-13 scoring advantage over Goldey-Beacom.
 
The Eagles will hit the road to take on Dominican on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. This is the second matchup between the two this season with Post taking the 65-63 victory on Jan. 5.
