Women’s Basketball Falls To Nyack, 71-65

Aubrey Latham Scores 24 In Defeat

NYACK, N.Y. - The Post women's basketball team was defeated at Nyack on Thursday night, 71-65, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game. Junior guard Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) scored 24 points and grabbed eight boards in the loss.
 
Sophomore Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) had another strong performance off the bench as she went 2-for-3 from long distance and scored 10 points. Wright-James had four rebounds and dished out three assists in the contest.
 
The Eagles held a 6-5 lead with 17:47 remaining in the opening half. Post (3-10, 1-5 CACC) went on a 10-0 run over the next 2:34 to take an 11-point lead with 15:13 to play in the stanza. Latham scored six points during the run. A jumper in transition by sophomore Colleen Hanscom (Melrose, Mass.) gave Post its largest lead of the half, 24-10, with 12:34 remaining.  
 
Nyack answered with a run of its own to tie the game at 24 with 7:09 remaining in the period. Latham nailed a three-pointer at 5:16 to put the Eagles back ahead by five, and Post took a 38-33 lead into the locker room.
 
The teams traded baskets to start the second half before a Brittany Mitchell jumper at the 17:55 mark gave Nyack (1-11, 1-6 CACC) its first lead of night at 39-38. Post jumped back ahead and pushed the advantage to 44-41 on a make by Kelli Reynolds (Milford, Conn.) at 15:47.
 
Nyack had a 55-54 led at the 7:30 mark when Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) stole the ball which led to a Latham jumper, giving the Eagles a 56-55 advantage.
 
Nyack gained control at the 5:59 mark when Courtney Peay hit a jumper to give the Warriors the lead for good at 57-56. Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.) made a three with 36 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 67-65. Nyack took the 71-65 victory for their first win of the season.
 
Post outscored the Warriors 34-22 in the paint and had a 16-8 advantage in bench points. Nyack held a 12-8 on the offensive glass, which led to a 12-3 advantage in second chance points.
 
The Eagles travel to Felician on Wednesday, Jan. 18 for another CACC contest. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
