Golf to Compete at NCAA East Regional Next Week

WATERBURY, Conn (April 28, 2011) Post University's golf team is making their final preparations for the NCAA East/Atlantic Region Tournament. The Eagles' goal is to finish in the top five among 20 teams and advance the NCAA National Tournament held in Alabama for the first time in program history.

"I think we have a good chance of advancing if we play to our capability,” said Pete Stevens, Eagles head coach. “We will have to be consistent in scoring up and down the line-up throughout all three rounds. We will need to bring our 'A' game in order to be successful.”

Last year the Eagles placed 12th and were 8th in 2009. Both tournaments were held in Daniels, West Virginia at the Glade Springs Country Club. This year the tournament moves a little closer to home and will be played at the Links in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

“The links style layout at Hersey should provide some good scoring opportunities so it will be a matter of playing deliberate team golf with no mistakes,” added Stevens. “We have a better team skill wise than last year so my expectations are high."

The Eagles are rebounding off a second place finish in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament and are currently ranked fourth in the East Region. The team is ranked 88th nationally by Golfstat.

Last season Davis McGregor carded a (80-81-75—326) finishing 45th overall. Thomas Rees was 50th shooting (77-85-75—237) as a freshman and Marchant de Villiers (81-85-81—247) was 86th.

The Eagles have added freshmen Ross Earnshaw and Oliver Hudak to the lineup. Both were All-CACC selections with Earnshaw earning Rookie of the Year honors.

The tournament will being on Monday May 2 with a 7:30 tee time for the first group. It will be a three round event with a practice round scheduled for Sunday May 1.
