Mission Viejo, Calif. (March 23, 2011)---Senior
David McGregor* finished tied for 23rd overall, and the Post University Eagles finished 10th in an ultra-competitive field at the Southern California Invitational.
McGregor was consistent all week, shooting 79 in all three rounds in the tournament to lead the Eagles.
Sophomore Marchant deViller (79-85-81-245) finished tied for 38th, and freshman
Ross Earnshaw (83-80-83-246) finished 40th in the tournament, which featured 14 teams.
The Eagles (325-325-327) played a tough, 6,794 course at the Mission Viejo Country Club, and head coach Pete Stevens said that the blustery wind and rainy conditions made it tough to score.
"We played a very, very difficult course...very demanding," said Stevens. "I think we could have done better, but the conditions didn't warrant good scores, and we played against a very good field."
Post University competed against six schools from the state of California, and another from Colorado, none of whom had to travel over 2,900 miles to get to the golf course like the Eagles did.
The Eagles finished two strokes behind Cal-State Dominguez Hills, and six strokes behind Cal-State East Bay.
Stevens believes the tournament was a good experience for the team, and that they will be ready to compete in the Peter King Memorial Tournament, hosted by Dowling College in New York starting April 3.
"I think we're coming along, and by the middle of the week we'll be peaking," he said.
The team wraps up its spring schedule with the CACC Championship in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania on April 11.
The Eagles are the defending CACC champions.
