Box Score
WATERBURY, Conn (February 23, 2011) Post University's women's basketball team fell to Caldwell College Wednesday evening 66-62 at the Drubner Center in Waterbury.
Kelli Reynolds led the offense for the Eagles with 21 points and six rebounds.
The Eagles came out flying in the first half with a 9-3 run jumping out in front of CACC North second ranked Caldwell early.
Casey Brooks got off to a fast start scoring ten of the Eagles first 18 points.
As the half wore on both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net as Post University's shooting percentage fell from 50 percent to 32.4 percent at the break. Caldwell struggled as well shooting only 31.6 percent from the floor in the first stanza.
Before heading into the locker rooms, Caldwell slowly chipped away at the Eagle's 10 point advantage. When Jeanette Anderson hit a layup in the final minute of the half the game was tied at 27.
After the break the teams exchanged buckets keeping either team's lead to less than four points the entire half.
Midway through the second half it looked as though Caldwell might take command of the game. After a Stephanie Cadet three from the corner, Eagle
Mallorie Michalak responded with one of her own bringing the crowd to their feet. It would be Michalak's only bucket of the game.
Down the stretch
Kelli Reynolds would take control of the Eagle offense hitting a jumper from the elbow to make the score 64-62 Caldwell with 1:30 to play.
On the other end of the floor Anderson missed a layup and
Raven Wright-James tracked down the rebound in the corner allowing head coach Alan Stekloff to cry out for the timeout.
With 25 seconds to play the Eagles trailed by two with the basketball and they put the ball in the hands of Reynolds. Reynolds drove to the bucket, but the off-balanced layup against two Cougar defenders fell short as Caldwell's Kaitlyn Lambert grabbed the rebounds and was fouled by Reynolds.
Lambert hit both free throws on the other end sealing a 66-62 Caldwell victory.
Monique Chance had a stellar game with nine points and 15 rebounds. Caldwell's Anderson tallied 21 points adding 9 rebounds.
Post University will return to competition on Saturday afternoon in the Drubner Center against USP for senior day. Game time is set for 1pm.
