HILLBURN, NY (October 26, 2011) Post University's women's soccer team played St. Thomas Aquinas College to a 0-0 double overtime draw Wednesday afternoon in Hillburn, New York. The Eagles now stand at 6-7-1 with their first tie of the season.
“We were a little lax in the first half and we have struggled to find the back of the net over the past few games,” said
Matt Micros, Eagles Head Coach. “We played okay today, but St. Thomas Aquinas worked hard and the goalkeeper came up huge a couple of times.”
Eagle goalkeeper
Grace McConnell made three saves on the day. Post took 17 shots while St. Thomas Aquinas took 14.
Post now turns their attention to Saturday's road matchup against Dominican with a playoff spot hanging in the balance. The Eagles must win to make post-season play and Dominican is in the same position as long as they defeat Bloomfield on Thursday.
The league is so close this season that if the Eagles are victorious, they would end the season in what could be a six way tie for third place in the standings. If Caldwell, Holy Family, Post, and Nyack all win, they would be tied with Georgian Court and Chestnut Hill for third. If Nyack losses to Felician Saturday, it would be a five team stalemate.
After all of the tie breaker rules are carefully implemented, the Eagles could end the season third in the CACC standings yet still go into the tournament as a seven or eight seed. Regardless Saturday's game against Dominican is a must win situation.
