Post University to Host CACC Golf Championship on Monday and Tuesday
WATERBURY, Conn (April 8, 2010) Four-time defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Champions Post University will host the 2010 CACC Tournament at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield, Connecticut.
Participants from the 11 conference teams will compete on the 7,011 yard par-72 Trent Jones Course throughout two rounds of play. The course features 44 bunkers, water hazards on seven of the back nine holes, and challenging undulated greens.
Post University's
David McGregor* won the tournament in 2009 as a sophomore and has since stepped into the role of captain for the Eagles. This season, McGregor has competed against ranked competition resulting in a 3rd place finish at the 60th Annual Southern California Division II Tournament in mid-march.
The biggest threat to the Eagles winning five consecutive championships are the Wilmington Wildcats. Wilmington is currently ranked first in the East Region; Post University is 4th, and Goldey Beacom sits 9th.
Wilmington is coming off a second place effort at the Edwin Cottrell Invite in Pennsylvania. Freshman Paul Tighe has already earned conference golfer of the week accolades and Daniel Ott has been named rookie of the week once this spring. Senior Matt Hall will also be in competition after a 10th place effort in last year's tournament.
For the Eagles, newcomer
Thomas Rees has been a consistent threat shooting 81-81-79 at the challenging Mission Viejo Country Club in California, which also earned him conference rookie of the week honors. Post University also returns 2009 CACC Tournament 4th and 5th place finishers
Lee Wanklyn and
Gavin Wilson.
Goldey Beacom freshman Michael Coppa is a threat as well after a second place individual effort at the Edwin Cottrell Invite shooting 76-72—148. Matt Quigley, Wes Hood, and Devon Ripley round out the Lightning lineup.
The 2010 CACC Championship will begin at 7:30 am on Monday April 12th as Post University, Wilmington, and Nyack's No. 5 golfers tee-off first. Round two will be contested beginning on Tuesday morning.
