Eagles Win on the Road Over Caldwell College 80-67

Box Score

CALDWELL, NJ (February 23, 2010) Behind a stellar 27-point performance from Post University Junior Spencer Smith, the Eagle's Men's Basketball team downed the Caldwell Cougars 80-67 Tuesday night at the Newman Center.

A Trevon Hamlet (19 points, 5 rebounds) lay-up with 4:40 remaining in the first half gave the Eagles a 29-27 lead that would stay secure until the final buzzer sounded. The first half, which saw 7 lead changes, would prove to be a completely different story than the second.

One minute into the second half saw the Post lead shrink to as little as 1 point when the Cougars' Malcolm Austin (17 points) hit a three-pointer to make the score 42-41. Less than 3 minutes later, however, Smith stole the ball from Caldwell's Cameron Badger (4 turnovers) and slammed it into the hoop to stretch the Eagles' lead to double digits. Much of the remainder of the game saw the Eagles maintain a double digit margin, and that's how the game would end.

Nyheem Sanders also played well for the Eagles, scoring 22 on the night.

The Eagles are back in action Thursday as they host Goldey-Beacom College in the WBCA Pink Zone Event to raise awareness about breast cancer. Tip-off is slated for 8pm.
