Kristen Kudrick was not going to be denied in the season opener for Lock Haven University on Saturday.

The senior forward scored 8 points, grabbed two rebounds, blocked a shot, and came up with a huge steal, all in the final 2:30 of play as Lock Haven went on a 9-0 run to close out Post University, 64-59 in the second round of the James A. Richardson Tip-Off Classic.

Kudrick scored 21 points for the Bald Eagles (1-0), and put an exclamation point on her late-game dominance by knocking down two clutch free throws to put the game out of reach with 17 seconds left.

The 5-10 forward also grabbed 9 rebounds, doing all of this in just 21 minutes of playing time.

Kelli Reynolds led the way for Post University with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Eleven different players scored for the Eagles (0-2).

Post University led 30-27 at halftime and took a 51-50 lead after Lisa Solazzo scored on a layup with 4:12 left.

But then Kudrick took over, scoring 8 of the final 10 points for Lock Haven.

Kacey Hershey added a double-double for the Bald Eagles, with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Peaches Nesmith scored 15 points and grabbed 6 boards.

Lock Haven was probably anxious to get its season started after bizarre circumstances caused the team to postpone its originally scheduled opener a day earlier.

Game officials for Post University's season opener against the College of Saint Rose showed up at the gym an hour and a half late, delaying the start of the tournament. (Post University dropped the game to Saint Rose, 85-48).

Rather than playing late into the night and forcing the loser to turn around for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday, Lock Haven and Lincoln University both decided to postpone their game until a later date.

The Eagles will return to action on Monday when they take on the New York Institute of Technology in New York City. The team returns to Waterbury for its home opener against the University of Bridgeport on November 18.
