Bridgeport Tops Post University Men's Basketball 86-72

WATERBURY, Conn (January 21, 2010) Post University's Men's Basketball team was defeated by the Bridgeport Thursday night at the Drubner Center 86-72. The non-conference loss puts the Eagles at 5-12, while the Purple Knights improve to 12-7.

Trevon Hamlet totaled a game-high 24 points, while graduate student
Jon Lucky netted 21 points and 10 rebounds for the double double. Bridgeport's Steve Martin tallied 18.
In the opening half, Bridgeport went on a 9-2 run to take the early lead as the Eagles looked to attack the glass with Lucky and Hamlet.
At the 7:55 mark, Lucky drove to the basket making a three point play out of the Bridgeport foul, cutting the Purple Knight lead to six. On the next trip down the floor, Lucky hit a straightaway three making the score 27-24 Bridgeport.
The Purple Knights built up a 12 point lead in the next minute and a half. Before the break, the Eagles attacked offensively once again before settling on a 38-32 halftime score.
Out of the locker room, the contest continued to be a game of runs until the 13 minute mark.
Garvin McAlister hit a three cutting the Purple Knight lead to six. On the following play Larry Grant completed a three point play after a layup and a foul making it 55-50 Bridgeport.
For the rest of the game, the Purple Knights slowly extended their lead to 11 points. As time dwindled, Bridgeport used the entire shot clock on consecutive possessions to run the game clock out and take an 86-72 point win.
The Eagles will take to the court again on Saturday at home against Chestnut Hill. Tip-off is set for 3pm.
