Post University Junior Equestrian Wins Again

WATERBURY, Conn. (October 19, 2009) – Junior Dominique Cogliano of Stamford, CT continued a successful season with her second blue ribbon in as many weeks winning her Novice Flat class in Intercollegiate Equestrian competition. The show was held Sunday, October 11th hosted by Brown/Roger Williams University.  

Cogliano also placed third in her Novice Fences class in her third year riding for Post University. 
"Niki is a committed rider," says Equine Program Director Carole Baker. "She has really learned the ropes of IHSA showing, and it shows.  The team as a whole should be proud of their record for the season already.  They've had a few wins and some learning opportunities as well."

Post University's Intercollegiate Dressage team competed on the same weekend on Saturday, October 10th at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  Riders from Post University placed in three of four divisions, with strong efforts from all riders.  

Senior Claire Smith of Ontario, Canada placed 6th in First Level (59.66%),  freshman Alyssa Segala of Prospect, CT placed 6th in Upper Training (64.8%), and sophomore Carlie Serif of Columbus, OH placed 6th in Lower Training (60.87%). 

 Freshman Alicia Mala from Killingworth, CT competed as an alternate rider on the UMASS Team B, scoring 60.8%.  Mala's team finished 1st overall.  Post University was also represented at First Level by junior and Co-Captain Lilly Stokes of (54.33%), Upper Training by junior Taylor Rosnov (61.2%), Lower Training by freshman Heather Whiles (56.52%), and Introductory by juniors Leah Krasnor (59.0%) and Christine Bittner (59.0%).

"All of our riders did a fantastic job and showed a tremendous amount of team spirit and support to each other,” said Jennifer Ford. “Several of the team members were riding at their first IDA show, and the format is pretty challenging until you get used to it."    

The dressage team will represent Post University in their next show at the University of Connecticut on Saturday, October 17, which the Eagles co-host.  The equestrian team will compete next at Rhode Island College on October 24th.
