Markure Twins to Play Women’s Soccer at Post University
WATERBURY, Conn (June 3, 2010) Naugatuck’s Andrea and Kelly Markure will play women’s soccer at Post University in the fall of 2010. Both have played on the FC Pontes Premiere team based in Waterbury.
“The Markure twins are two very tough defenders who could also find themselves playing in the midfield,” said John Benitez, Post University Head Coach. “They will add a lot of needed size and toughness to the back four, both are very good in the air as smart and poised defenders.”
While attending Post University both twins will pursue a degree in criminal justice.
“It will be different that high school, but I am looking forward to the increased level of competition and the challenge that presents,” said Andrea Markure.
In 19 games this season, the Markure sisters only allowed four goals while they were on the field including the Naugatuck Valley League tournament and two state championship games. Competing in the NVL pitted them against their new teammate of Watertown, Post University sophomore Sabrina Sinopoli.
“I chose Post University because they are trying to add strength to their program and I think I can fill that role,” added Kelly Markure. “Sabrina is a good player and I have defended against her, so hopefully we can be successful together.”
Name: Andrea Marie Markure
Why did you choose to attend Post University and play athletics at the Division II level? I was debating if I still wanted to play soccer before I started my senior year, but then I realized that soccer is everything to me. I’ve been playing since I was five. I can’t see myself not playing this sport. I chose Post University because I wasn’t looking for a big college to go to and my friend plays for their soccer team so why not?
What are your plans after you graduate? My plans after I graduate would hopefully be to pursue a career in criminal justice.
