Rose's overtime goal and Young's 48 saves propel Eagles to first win of season

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Post Women's Ice Hockey won their first game of the season over Robert Morris University, gaining their first-ever program win over a non-conference Division I school with a thrilling overtime goal from Jodie Rose and behind 48 saves from Alex Young.

THE BASICS

Post 2, Robert Morris 1

Robert Morris: 1-1-0

HOW IT HAPPENED

Post would begin and end Saturday afternoon's matchup against Robert Morris nearly the same way, scoring as time started and eventually expired.

Just 19 seconds into the second of two games in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, Kingston Golding scored her first collegiate goal after assisting on all three Eagles goals in the teams' first showdown the night prior.

Over the duration of the game, the Colonials would go on to fire 49 shots at Eagles goalie Alex Young, but the Eagles played tenaciously and Young defended well, stopping 48 of the  Colonials' shots, nearly tying her save total from the 2025-26 season in which she stopped 56 shots. Young started just her third collegiate matchup Saturday afternoon.

The Colonials didn't convert on a shot until 14:16 in the third period as time expired, tying the game at one apiece and keeping the Eagles in town slightly longer as they entered overtime.

Continuing the trend of the game, the Colonials took six shots in the first four minutes and 50 seconds of the fourth period, but the Eagles only needed one. Jodie Rose skated from one end of the rink to the Eagles' offensive zone with a Colonial in-tow. Colonials goalie Maggie Hatch positioned herself at the left side of the goal, so Rose wisely skated from the left to the right side of the crease and shot toward the open right side of Hatch's net to score the game-winning goal with just ten seconds remaining.

WHO'S NEXT

The Eagles will return to their home state to face in-state rival Quinnipiac University for just the second time ever on Tuesday, Oct. 6th at 6:00 p.m. in Hamden. The hosting Bobcats are currently undefeated and sit atop the nation's best at #6.
