Women's Soccer Suffers 5-1 Loss in Season Opener to Saint Anselm

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Post Women's Soccer opens the season with a 5-1 loss to Saint Anselm as Junior Midfielder Megan Deneen scored a pair of goals for the Hawks. 

THE BASICS 

Post University (0-1-0)

Saint Anselm College (1-0-0) 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Saint Anselm got on the board first with a goal from Deneen from the top of the box after a pass off of a free kick from Junior Defender Catherine McCarthy to land her an assist in the 17th minute. The Hawks would go on to score four more goals to make it five unanswered goals. Connie Patturelli scored the Hawks second goal and was assisted by Nicole Schneider and Samantha Roux in the 28th minute. Deneen got on the board again with her second goal of the game coming in the 34th minute to make it 3-0 which ended up being the score heading into halftime. Addison Jerome scored the Hawks fourth goal of the game in the 53th minute with an assist by Daniella Atherton. The final goal of the game for Saint Anselm was scored by Atherton in the 57th minute. Samantha Swidorski started in net for the Hawks and played all 90 minutes as she allowed one goal and made four saves. 

The Eagles scored their first goal of the season in the 73rd minute with a cross into the box by Freshman midfielder Lizbeth Constante that ended up going off of Hawks defender and into the back of the net which brought the score to 5-1. 

The Eagles were out shot 24-6 (16-4 on goal) in the match. Aryn Nisbet started in goal for Post and played the first half allowing three goals and saving four shots. She was replaced by Celine Gubser at the start of the second half who allowed two goals and saved seven shots.  Reese Kloetzer and Lizbeth Constante were the only two Eagles to play the full 90 minutes.

The Eagles are back in action on September 1st at 7:00PM at Southern Connecticut State University. Post is 1-6 all-time against the Owls falling 6-1 in their last matchup on September 25, 2024.
