BUCKHANNON, W.Va.-- Post football opened up the 2026 season on the road against West Virginia Wesleyan, falling 31-13 Saturday afternoon at Cebe Ross Field. The Eagles showed flashes on both sides of the ball but five turnovers and 12 penalties for 143 yards were too much to come back from for the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
It was a slow first quarter for both offenses as there were no points scored for either team. West Virginia Wesleyan forced a fumble and Davonte Courtney was able to recover it for the Bobcats. Post's defense was able to hold strong after the turnover by the offense. The Eagles offense got going at the end of the first quarter as they were driving down the field but the quarter came to an end but on the second play of the second quarter quarterback Tyler Phommachanh faked the handoff and rushed right up the middle for a 9 yard touchdown to get the Eagles on the board and take a 7-0 lead. 

West Virginia Wesleyan would go on to score 14 unanswered points as back up quarterback Mike Evans Jr. threw an 18 yard strike to Tariq Meredith for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. Evans Jr. came in the game during the first quarter after an injury to starting quarterback Liam McGuire. Evans Jr. connected with Amari Colon-Brown for a 52 yard touchdown to take a 14-7 lead going into halftime. 

West Virginia Wesleyan picked up where they left off, opening the second half with a 32 yard touchdown pass from Evans Jr. to Colon-Brown for their second touchdown connection of the day. The Eagles didn't waste anytime to respond as they had a five play 68 yard drive that started off with an Adonis White 34 yard rush. The drive was capped off with a 19 yard touchdown pass from Phommachanh to DJ Lisbon to make it 21-13 as the extra point was no good. The Bobcats tacked on three more points with a 36 yard field goal from Caleb Nelson which made it 24-13 with 7:00 left in the third quarter.  

The Bobcats sealed the game with a Evans Jr. touchdown pass to yet again Colon-Brown for a 26 yard touchdown for their third time today to extend their lead to 31-13. Richard Williams and Jordan Reamer led the way for the Eagles defense as Williams had 10 tackles and Reamer had 1.5 sacks. 

WHO'S NEXT 
Post heads into a bye week then returns to action for their home opener September 12th against West Liberty University at 1:00 PM at Municipal Stadium. This will be the first ever meeting between the Eagles and Hilltoppers.
