HOW IT HAPPENED
Post University got on the board first in this one here in Waterbury as quarter back
Tyler Phommachanh kept the ball and ran up the middle for a four yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 Eagles after the successful extra point with 10:40 left in the first quarter. The Eagles score was set up after
Hayden Hall had a 68 yard punt that AIC's Connor Dietz tried to pick up late but ended up fumbling it and it was then recovered by
Mark Boyd and the Post defense.
The Eagles got on the board again just two minutes later as kicker
Nathan Hawkins kicked a 23 yard field goal that was pure. This came after AIC's running back Bo Catherwood fumbled the hand off which was recovered by Eagle defender
Jordan Reamer.
AIC struck back with 6:57 left before half time as Catherwood took the hand off and rushed up the middle for a 17 yard touchdown to cut the lead to 10-6 Eagles as the extra point attempt was no good.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board again as Catherwood again took the hand off and rushed for a 30 yard touchdown to give AIC a 12-10 lead as they went for the two point conversion and did not get it.
The Eagles regained the led in the third quarter as Hawkins connected on his second field goal of the game this time from 28 yards out to give Post a 13-12 led with 9:24 left in the third quarter. Post struck again this time on a pass from Phommachanh to
Jayquan Bromell in the corner of the end zone for a 20 yard touchdown which extended the Eagles led, 20-12.
AIC responded with yet another Catherwood touchdown run this time for 14 yards and they went for two and converted with a pass from Lukas Kasko to Catherwood which tied the game, 20-20.
Post had a chance to take the lead as they had four plays inside the five yard line but weren't able to push it across for the touchdown and ended up turning the ball over on downs on the four yard line.
The Yellow Jackets then responded with a 16 play drive which ended with a 19 yard touchdown pass to Jovann Brown to take a 27-20 lead with 2:10 left in the game.
Post was unable to respond after a costly penalty made it 3 and 29 and ended up turning the ball over on downs which ended the game and gave AIC the 27-20 win over the Eagles.
