HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 6, Jefferson University 5
In a game that looked like it would be all Jefferson, the Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings against graduate right-hander
Katelyn Lipsky, as sophomore infielder Devin Brandley and sophomore catcher Rozalee Negron each singled in a run, while junior infielder Sabrina Pastino knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly. While sophomore infielder
Angelica Tompkins drove in a run with her RBI double in the third, Jefferson answered back with two more runs over the next three innings to take a four-run edge.
Up until the seventh, the Eagles had been held in check by sophomore pitcher Delaney Alix, before the wheels fell off on the Jefferson defense, allowing Post to pull off the comeback. After retiring the first two hitters, Tompkins singled up the middle on a 3-1 pitch, before sophomore infielder Liv Stevens' error allowed the game to continue for graduate catcher
Sydney Jones. After Jones walked on a 3-2 count, the bases were loaded for junior utility player
Allysa Calabrese, who quickly fell into an 0-2 hole. Calabrese proceeded to foul off six straight pitches, eventually clearing the bases with a three-run triple, making it just a one-run game, 5-4.
Graduate infielder
Nyla Sapia would also be down to her final strike in a 2-2 count as the next batter, fouling off seven balls to stay alive and tie the game with an RBI double, knocking Alix out of the game in favor of freshman pitcher Bailey Maloney. Maloney would immediately throw a wild pitch to Martinez, sending Sapia to third, before the freshman took a 1-1 pitch deep to short, reaching first safely for the infield single and the 6-5 walk-off win.
Game 2: Post University 3, Jefferson University 5
Looking to pick up their first sweep against the Rams since the 2022 season, three runs came across the plate for the Eagles in the second after a first-inning home run from junior outfielder Mackenzie Ward against sophomore right-hander
Meghan McGurk. With the bases loaded, freshman pitcher Lauren Bernaiche hit sophomore outfielder
Hannah Searles, allowing one run to score, before sophomore outfielder
Isabella Oliver's two-run single that gave Post all three of their runs in the affair.
Against McGurk, Jefferson's bats went right back to work to tie the game up at three in the third as Negron drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, while Brandley's RBI single knotted it up. Freshman catcher Alyssa Bailey would knock the sophomore out of the game with her solo shot in the fourth, capping her line at four runs on six hits across three innings with two strikeouts and a walk, as she fell to 3-10 in the circle.
Bernaiche, who threw 116 pitches in her ninth victory of the season, allowed only three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts, two walks, two hit batters, and a wild pitch, as Post's biggest threat came in the seventh with a runner on second and nobody out. Bernaiche would respond with two strikeouts and a fly out to secure the split with a 5-3 win for her team.
