DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Sophomore infielder
Angelica Tompkins belted two home runs on the road against Mercy University in what was the final non-conference doubleheader of the season for Post University Softball on Wednesday afternoon. However, the Eagles would see a five-run lead in game one evaporate with a seven-run sixth by the Mavericks, dropping the decision, 9-6, before Mercy made another comeback in game two to sweep the pair of games, 12-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 6, Mercy University 9
The game played out similarly to game one on Saturday against Holy Family University, but this time it was the Eagles taking the early 1-0 lead on an RBI walk issued to freshman infielder
Haley DiBona by freshman pitcher Mya Marelli. Junior Julianna Coluccio would respond in kind with an RBI double off graduate right-hander
Katelyn Lipsky to tie the game up at one, before Post went on to score five unanswered runs.
It started in the second with another walk and wild pitch by Marelli, this time to sophomore infielder
Alexandra Bisceglia, before Tompkins knocked her second home run of the season, making it a 6-1 game in the frame. The final run of the contest for the Eagles would come in the third on an error by junior second baseman Allison Murphy, before the Mavericks responded in the sixth.
With Lipsky cruising along, things would unravel in the sixth as seven runs came across for Mercy to steal game one. It started with an RBI single from Coluccio, followed by a bases-clearing triple from freshman outfielder Emma Jackson, which made it a one-run game. Following a game-tying single by Murphy, junior shortstop Averi Miller gave the home team the lead with her RBI double, ending Lipsky's outing.
In her place, sophomore right-hander
Meghan McGurk would allow a two-run home run to Coluccio, who finished a triple short of the cycle with four RBIs, before escaping the inning. Senior Mackayla Secoda allowed the tying run in Bisceglia to get to the dish with two outs in the seventh, but retired her via the strikeout to end the comeback bid in a 9-6 loss for Post.
Game 2: Post University 7, Mercy University 12
Mashing her second home run of the day, Tompkins gave the Eagles a quick 2-0 lead against freshman Juliana Abbene in the first, before DiBona made it back-to-back long balls for Post with her third home run of the season. After leading 4-1 following an RBI single from DiBona in the third, once again, the Mavericks would strike back to tie the game up at four all.
Doing so right away in the bottom of the third, another RBI base-knock for Murphy followed by the second home run of the day for Coluccio, this time off junior right-hander
Allysa Calabrese, evaporated the three-run edge. But the fifth inning would be Post's turn to respond as freshman utility player
Tatiana Martinez, who has reached base safely in five of her last six games now, doubled in two runs off of Secoda, who entered in the second.
Calabrese would help out her cause on the mound as well, singling in another run, turning it into a three-run lead, 7-4, before running into trouble in the circle during the bottom of the frame. Walking the first two batters, Calabrese would be pulled for Lipsky after a two-run double by Miller with nobody out made it a one-run game, and a fielding error from the graduate student allowed Miller to score from third after a wild pitch, tying the game at seven.
Post's lead would disappear once more as a one-out double steal allowed Coluccio to cross home plate, giving Mercy their first lead of the game, 8-7, before Lipsky got out of the inning. Sophomore Lauren McSweeney, who pitched the final 2 1/3 innings for the Mavericks, would shut down Post's offense, allowing only one hit while striking out one, as the offense for Mercy put up four more runs in the sixth, en route to the 12-7 win.
