Softball Drops Pair to Holy Family in Weekend Conference Road Matchup

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Looking to continue their push upwards in the conference standings, Post University Softball would get swept for only the second time this season in a conference doubleheader, falling on the road to Holy Family University, 8-5 in the first game, followed by a five-inning, 8-0 defeat in game two, as the Eagles are now 6-6 in conference play. The pair of wins for the Tigers moved them ahead of Post in the standings at 7-5, as the Eagles fell to sixth-place as of early this afternoon.

THE BASICS

Post University 5, Holy Family University 8

Post University 0, Holy Family University 8 (5 Innings)

Post University (9-24, 6-6 CACC)

Holy Family University (15-19, 7-5 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Post University 5, Holy Family University 8
Freshman infielder Andrianna Lisotto got the scoring started for the Tigers in the first inning with her RBI single to center against sophomore right-hander Meghan McGurk, before the Eagles came back with a five-run third-inning blitz that helped them regain the lead, 5-1. During that third, sophomore outfielder Isabella Oliver singled in a pair of runs to give Post the lead, followed by a bases-clearing single from freshman Haley DiBona after an error plated the third run.

But the lead ended up being short-lived as the Tigers answered with five runs of their own in the bottom of the third, starting with a two-run home run from junior Lily Hoban, while an error, which was one of three the Eagles had in the contest, led to another run coming home, cutting the lead for Post down to one, 5-4. Senior outfielder Gina Olivieri would bring in the game-tying run with her fielder's choice, while a walk issued by McGurk gave the Tigers the lead back for good as they went ahead 6-5.

Tacking on another pair of runs in the sixth, Holy Family allowed itself some insurance heading into the seventh, where junior right-hander Molly Moore shut the door with a 1-2-3 inning against Post. Moore came into the game to relieve senior left-hander Paige Tidaback, throwing 4 2/3 innings in which she allowed no runs on two hits with five strikeouts and a walk, moving to 7-6 in the circle this season.

Game 2: Post University 0, Holy Family University 8 (5 Innings)
Having a total of five errors in the second game, the combination of miscues as well as a stellar performance from junior right-hander Kinsey Hall helped the Tigers secure the sweep with a five-inning mercy rule win, 8-0. Hall spun five shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four, walking one, and throwing a wild pitch.

Graduate right-hander Katelyn Lipsky lasted three innings, giving up six runs (three earned) on three hits with two walks and a strikeout, before junior right-hander Allysa Calabrese pitched the fourth inning, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with two strikeouts, a walk, and a wild pitch. Hoban went 2-for-2 for the Tigers with two RBIs, while Lisotto finished with two RBIs in no at-bats via her two sacrifice flies.

Two of the three hits that the Eagles came away with were off the bat of sophomore infielder Alexandra Bisceglia, while sophomore outfielder Hannah Searles moved her season-best hitting streak up to four consecutive games with the other hit for Post.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Hannah Searles has seen her bat start to get going as she now has a four-game hitting streak, which is her longest of the season after recording one hit in each contest
  • Across the doubleheader, Post University committed eight combined errors after having three in game one, followed by five in game two
  • Post University has now lost six consecutive games against Holy Family University, dating back to the 2024 season, while dropping eight of the last nine overall

WHO'S NEXT
Post University will face off against Mercy University in its final non-conference games of the regular season this Tuesday on the road, starting the doubleheader at 2:30 PM. Earlier this year in Florida, the Eagles fell to the Mavericks, 6-5, dropping their third consecutive game against them in the all-time series.
