BOCA RATON, Fla. – Sometimes all it takes is one, and one is all it took for Post University Baseball to snap its three-game losing streak on Sunday morning against Lynn University in the final game of the Boca Raton, Florida, trip this weekend. Junior first baseman
Evan Urglavitch hit his first home run as an Eagle, a grand slam, during a five-run fourth inning for Post to help them beat the Fighting Knights for the first time in program history, 5-4.
THE BASICS
Post University 5, Lynn University 4
Post University (6-10)
Lynn University (8-11)
HOW IT HAPPENED
For Lynn, they would be the first to score against freshman right-hander
Hector Cuevas, who made his first collegiate start for the Eagles on Sunday, as junior infielder Justin Lopez's RBI single in the second inning, along with an RBI double in the third inning from junior infielder Joel Tapia-Melo, made it a 2-0 lead with Cuevas on the mound. The freshman would end up picking up his first collegiate win, going five innings in which he allowed three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks, along with one hit batter. But a five-run fourth would be all Post needed to come away with the victory and snap that three-game skid.
Sophomore pitcher Justyn Hart would be charged with the first three runs while junior right-hander Landon Petrisko was charged with the other two, as the inning started with a single by graduate outfielder
Andrew Hartman, followed by Hart hitting senior catcher
Manny Contreras to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Now with the bases loaded, sophomore outfielder
Jayren Foster would get Post on the board with his RBI groundout as Petrisko took the mound following a walk to load the bases by Hart. Once again loaded with one out, Urglavitch came to the dish and took the first pitch out of the park, giving the Eagles their first lead of the day, 5-2.
That would be all they needed as Lynn would get one back in the fifth on an RBI single from senior infielder Amaris Harrison and a throwing error by junior infielder
Jesse Alfalla in the eighth inning. However, the Eagle bullpen led by freshman right-handers
JJ Roberts and
Andrew Hardin. The duo combined to allow one unearned run on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk to hold down the 5-4 victory. Lynn's bullpen after Petrisko held the Eagle bats in check with five scoreless innings allowed only two hits while striking out four and walking one.
