Greene Has Big Five-Point Day, Adds Nine Ground Balls in First Women's Lacrosse Win Since 2024

SPARKILL, N.Y. –  Senior attacker Claire Greene continued to fill up the scoresheet for Post University Women's Lacrosse, this time on both sides of the ball, as the Eagles snapped a 17-game losing streak dating back to the 2024 season with a 15-4 win on the road at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday afternoon. Green tied for the team lead in points with five after scoring four times and having an assist, while defensively she picked up nine ground balls and had four caused turnovers.

THE BASICS

Post University 15, St. Thomas Aquinas College 4

Post University (1-1)

St. Thomas Aquinas College (0-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a wire-to-wire victory for the Eagles as sophomore midfielder Caryss Kehl and Greene scored back-to-back against senior goalie Lilah Magenheimer, which sent Post well on their way to the win. After just 15 minutes of action, those two goals, along with two from freshman midfielder Peyton Tully gave the visitors a 4-1 lead heading into the second quarter, in which they would continue to extend their edge with a six-goal showing.

By halftime, Tully had four of her five goals on the day, while Greene accumulated all four of hers in the process. As for the Spartans, senior midfielder Jada Garcia had two of the three first-half goals that St. Thomas Aquinas College had, while senior attacker Jade Gorman had the other in what was a 10-3 lead for the Eagles at the break.

Post's defense would continue to clamp down on St. Thomas Aquinas, allowing just one goal in the second half with 3:53 left in regulation from freshman attacker Victoria Calabro. In net, Magenheimer would make 14 saves on 29 shots for the Spartans, while freshman goalie Katheryn Sousa earned her first collegiate win between the pipes after allowing only four goals and making six saves in the win.

As for the defensive side of the ball, Greene's nine ground balls would be part of 47 total ground balls that the Eagles had with graduate midfielders Anna D'Angelo right behind her with eight ground balls and Alyssa Hebb with seven. Those 47 ground balls as a team were the most that Post has had in a single game in program history, while the 15 caused turnovers were the fifth-most in a single game. On the other end, the Spartans committed 32 turnovers as a team, as the Eagles ran away with the 15-4 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The four goals allowed by Post University's defense are the fewest since they allowed just one against Felician University at home on March 20th, 2024 in a 25-1 win
